Bilaspur/Raipur, August 14 (Udaipur Kiran) – The Bilaspur District and Sessions Court sentenced a man to death late Tuesday evening for murdering his wife, two daughters, and son. The court described these murders as an “extreme act of brutality” and classified the case as “rarest of the rare.” In its ruling, the court stated that the convict should be hanged until death.

Additional Sessions Judge Avinash K. Tripathi sentenced 34-year-old Umend Kevat to death for strangling his wife Sukrita Kevat (32), two daughters Khushi (5) and Lisa (3), and 18-month-old son Pawan Kevat. The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on the convict.

According to the prosecution, on the night of January 1, 2024, Umend Kevat, a resident of Hirri village in Masturi police station area of Bilaspur district, strangled his wife Sukrita and their three children—Khushi, Lisa, and infant son Pawan—with a rope due to suspicion of his wife’s character. Following the incident, the police arrested Kevat. After hearing the case, the court had reserved its verdict on July 29, which was delivered on Tuesday.

The prosecution was represented by Additional Public Prosecutors Lakshmikant Tiwari and Abhijit Tiwari, who played a crucial role in securing the death penalty for Umend Kevat. They stated that the swift action by the police ensured justice for the victim’s family. The court handed down the death sentence within just eight months, based on the evidence and witness testimonies.
