Bhopal, August 10 (Udaipur Kiran): The heavy rainfall in Madhya Pradesh has slowed down, with only light showers in some areas. Despite the reduced rain, Bhopal’s Kerwa Dam has overflowed. This overflow is not due to rain, but from water flowing in from nearby fields.
On Saturday morning, as the water level in the dam reached 1673 feet, one of the 8 gates opened automatically. The remaining 7 gates are also releasing water. All gates of this dam are automatic and open once the water reaches the full tank level.
Earlier, after the Bada Talab (Upper Lake) reached its full level, the gates of Bhadbhada and Kaliyasot dams were already opened. The Hathai Kheda Dam, located in Anand Nagar, has also overflowed. Bhopal’s average rainfall is 37.6 inches, and so far, 32.76 inches of rain has been recorded. This is 87% of the season’s expected rainfall, which is more than last year. Last year, only 30.9 inches of rain was recorded during the entire season.
It’s important to note that Bhopal usually experiences rain for an average of 14 days in August, with 13 inches of rain expected. This year, heavy rain occurred in the first four days of August, followed by light rain. So far, half of August’s expected rain has fallen. More heavy rain is predicted after August 15.
