Disney has announced plans to begin enforcing restrictions on password sharing for Disney+ users starting in September 2024 in the United States. The company has not yet provided details about when, or if, similar measures will be introduced in India.
The new policy aims to prevent the use of a single Disney+ account across multiple households, addressing a growing concern over account sharing. This move follows Netflix’s crackdown on password sharing, which has been in effect in India for some time.
Alongside the crackdown, Disney is set to increase subscription prices for Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu beginning in October.
Disney CEO Bob Iger believes that the price hikes will be justified by the addition of new features, including ABC News Live and specially curated playlists, which will enhance the value of the subscription services.
