I hope Samsung will do more with Generative Wallpapers soon

It seems like everyone's mileage might vary when it comes to Galaxy AI features and tools. Generative Wallpaper has been one of my favorite components since it shipped with Galaxy AI and my Galaxy S24+ earlier this year. However, I am a little disappointed that I haven't seen improvements to this tool so far. One UI 6.1.1 brought nothing new to AI-generated wallpapers.

We're all looking forward to the release of the One UI 7.0 update, which should be more substantial than the incremental 6.1.1 version. It's not yet official, but rumors say One UI 7.0 will bring many visual changes, UI improvements, and smoother animations. Even some Samsung icons are going to change, and it might be one of the biggest One UI updates to date.

Samsung may also bring some novelties to the Galaxy AI suite. And with so much focus on the visual side of things for One UI 7.0, I hope the company will soon start paying some extra attention to the Generative Wallpaper tool.

More options to create and save wallpapers

In short, I hope Generative Wallpaper will introduce new categories for colors, objects, and styles and offer more control over the final result. Looking forward to a more distant future, I can see how the new Sketch to Image AI component, which Samsung added to its latest foldable phones through One UI 6.1.1, could lend a lot more creative freedom to Generative Wallpaper.

But I don't want to get ahead of myself and dream too big. Combining these two elements might be too much work. So, for starters, I only hope Samsung will at least give Galaxy AI users more premade Generative options and, at the very least, a way to save more than 15 generative wallpapers without overwriting older ones once we reach this arbitrary limit of 15. The latter has been one of my gripes since Galaxy AI debuted at the beginning of the year.

More after the video

Lastly, I'd also appreciate a method of sharing Generative Wallpaper with other users. Or, at the very least, we could use an easier way to set the same Generative Wallpaper on multiple Galaxy devices other than backing up and restoring the Home Screen to Samsung Cloud.

One UI 7.0 should roll out later this year. But first, users in select regions will gain access to a One UI 7.0 beta program. The latter appears to have gotten delayed, presumably because Samsung intends to give beta testers a more bug-free experience from the beginning.
