Aspen is gearing up for a Safety Improvement Walking Tour on Aug. 12, designed to enhance the city’s safety for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and drivers, according to a news release.

The tour will play a crucial role in shaping a comprehensive safety action plan aimed at addressing current safety concerns, the city said.

City Engineer Tricia Aragon emphasized the growing risks on the roads, especially for pedestrians and cyclists.

“We’re eager to incorporate community suggestions to boost road safety,” she said in the release, highlighting the importance of public input.

Participants of the 90-minute walking tour will explore some of Aspen’s most problematic intersections. During the tour, residents will have the opportunity to voice their concerns and share experiences directly with city engineers and safety experts from Alta Planning + Design. The team will evaluate crash data, current infrastructure, and gather insights from key stakeholders including police, fire, emergency services, and transportation planners.

This initiative will provide crucial insights into the specific safety challenges and opportunities in Aspen, contributing to strategic recommendations for enhancing roadway safety.

Tour details:

  • Date: Aug. 12
  • Times: 3-4:30 p.m. and 5:15-6:45 p.m.
  • Location: Outside City Hall, Galena Plaza — 427 Rio Grande Place
