India's power consumption increased by 3.5 per cent year on year (YoY) to 145.4 billion units (BU) in July this year amid monsoon rains.

The highest supply in a day, i.e., peak power demand met, also increased to 226.63GW in July against 208.95 GW in the corresponding month last year.

In May this year, the peak power demand touched an all-time high of 250.2 GW, a news agency reported. The previous all-time high peak power demand of 243.27 GW was seen in September 2023.

The power ministry earlier this year projected a peak power demand of 235 GW during daytime and 225 GW during evening hours for May and 240 GW during daytime and 235 GW during evening hours for June 2024.

Its estimated peak power demand this summer was 260 GW.

Experts feel the demand for power as well as consumption will be steady in the next few days due to high humidity.
