Paris 2024 Olympics LIVE Updates, Day 6: Swapnil Kusale wins bronze; Sindhu crashes out

Serbian Novak Djokovic won the first set 6-3 against Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in their men’s singles quarterfinal clash.

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassiame secured a semifinal spot after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the men’s singles quarterfinal.

Auger-Aliassime will face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal.

India’s Nethra Kumanan will be in action in the women’s dinghy race 2, which has been postponed to August 2. After race 1, Kumanan is in the sixth place. 

USA’s Simone Biles is eyeing a gold medal as she leads the women’s all-around event with 44.065 points. Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and Italy’s Alice D’amato are in second and third respectively. 

PV Sindhu is trailing 5-13 in the second game of the women’s singles round of 16 match against He Bing Jiao of China.

Norway’s Casper Ruud has taken the match into the third set after winning the second set 7-6 against Canada’s Auger Aliassime.

Rebeca Andrade of Brazil leads the standings in the women’s all-around event with 29.766 points, closely followed by Kaylia Nemour of Algeria with 29.566 and Simone Biles of USA with 29.566.

PV Sindhu has lost the first game 21-19 against world number six He Bing Jiao.

He Bing of China leads 11-8 against PV Sindhu in the first game of the women’s singles round of 16 clash.

Italian Giovanni de Gennaro won gold in the Men’s Kayak Single Final after completing the course in 88.22 seconds. France’s Titouan Castryck took silver while Spaniard Pau Echaniz won bronze.

Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime wins the first set 6-4 against Norway’s Casper Ruud in the men’s singles quarterfinal.

Zelym Kotsoiev from Azerbaijan beat Georgia’s Ilia Sulamanidze 10-1 in the final of the judo men’s 100kg to secure the gold medal.

Paris 2024 Olympics: Here are all the scores and results of Indian athletes who were in action at the Summer Games on Thursday, August 1.

Play was suspended at the men’s Olympic golf tournament on Thursday shortly before 4:30 PM (8:00 PM IST) local time due to a storm in the local area.

India’s Shubhankar Sharma is in the T24 position while Gaganjeet Bhullar is T56.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev crashed out of the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s singles event after losing 7-5, 7-5 to Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinal.

Musetti will face the winner of the quarterfinal between Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinal.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz came back from 5-2 down in the second set to beat American Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-6 in the quarterfinal of the men’s singles event.

World number three Felix LeBrun of France beat Yun-Ju Lin of Chinese Taipei 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8, 8-11 and 11-6 in the men’s singles quarterfinal match.

Americans Justin Best, Nick Mead, Michael Grady and Liam Corrigan cruised through the 2000-metre course with barely a ripple in their wake to finish ahead of New Zealand and Britain.

Lakshya Sen wins the badminton men’s singles round of 16 encounter against HS Prannoy 21-12, 21-6. A comfortable win for Sen against his senior compatriot who seems to clearly below his best after his illness in the lead up to the games.

Lakshya Sen advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics badminton men’s singles event after beating H.S. Prannoy 21-12, 21-6 in an all-Indian round of 16 tie at the La Chapelle Arena.

A comfortable 16-9 lead for Lakshya Sen in the first game of the badminton men’s singles round of 16 clash against HS Prannoy. 

A disappointing end to the men’s doubles competition for Satwik-Chirag as they succumb to a 21-13, 14-21, 16-21 loss against Aaron Chia and Wooi Yik Soh of Malaysia. 

Satwik, Chirag lose in quarters of Men’s Doubles badminton at Paris Olympics

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost the quarterfinals of the Men’s doubles event in badminton, going down 21-13, 14-21, 16-21 against the current World No. 3 Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik at the Paris Olympics.

Iga Swiatek’s hunt for a gold medal is brought to an end by China’s Qinwen Zhang after a 2-6, 5-7 loss. Swiatek will now play the bronze medal match against the loser of the second semifinal between Donna Vekic and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. 

Vishnu Saravanan finishes 10th in Race 1 of the Men’s Dinghy, finishing 1:36 behind leader Duko Bos of the Netherlands. 

Shubhankar Sharma rises to T12 at 3 under par. Gaganjeet Bhullar falls to T55 at 2 over par. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama leads at 8 under par. 

Chia/ Soh take the second set 21-14 to force a decider against Satwik/ Chirag in the badminton men’s doubles quarterfinal. 

Anjum Moudgill and Sift Kaur Samra fail to make it to the final of the Women’s rifle 50m 3 position event. 

Moudgill scored 584 with 26 inner tens to finish 18th while Sift finished with 575 points and 22 inner tens to finish 31st. 

Vishnu Saravanan currently stands 15th in the Sailing Men’s Dinghy Race 1, 0.36 behind the leader after the first mark. The top 10 finishers qualify for the medal race.

Satwik/ Chirag extend the lead to six points in the first set. Quite a few unforced errors from the Malaysian pair.

Anjum has a fourth point gap to overcome to enter the qualification spots with the standing rounds left. 

Anjum scores a 97 in the first set of the prone series. Sift registers 99. Both the shooters are outside qualification places for now. 

At the end of the kneeling stage, Anjum Moudgill stands 9th with 196 points and 8 inner tens. Sift finishes 25th with 193 points and 8 inner tens. 

At the end of the first ten shots of the kneeling round, Anjum is 19th with 97 points and four inner tens while Sift stands 28th with 98 points and four inner tens. 

Sift Kaur Samra and Anjum Moudgill will be in action soon in the Women’s rifle 50m 3 position qualification round.

India suffered a close 1-2 defeat to Belgium in its penultimate group stage encounter to drop to second in the Pool B standings. India has already qualified for the quarterfinals.

Priyanka finished 41st in the women’s 20km race walk event with a time of 1:39.55. 

Jiayu Yang wins gold for China with a season-best time of 1:25.54, ahead of Spain’s Maria Perez who also registered a season best time of 1:26.19. Jemima Montag of Australia won bronze with an Area record timing of 1:26.25 .

Wu Yu beats Nikhat Zareen 5:0 on points in the Women’s 50kg round of 16.

Paris 2024 Olympics: Nikhat Zareen loses to Wu Yu in Boxing 50kg round of 16 bout

Asian Games bronze medallist Nikhat Zareen lost to the top seed Wu Yu of China 0:5 on points in the women’s 50kg boxing round of 16 of the Paris 2024 Olympics at North Paris Arena on Thursday.

Wu Yu win the second round against Nikhat with three judges handing her a score of ten. Three judges have both boxers tied at 19 points overall. Nikhat will need to score in this round to tilt the scales in her favour. 

Pravin Jadhav loses to China’s Wenchao Kao 0-6 in the archery men’s 1/32 elimination round.

Wu Yu takes the first round against Nikhat Zareen. Four out of five judges hand the Chinese a perfect score of ten.
