Google has announced a new feature for Google Maps called AR Experience. It overlays augmented reality (AR) content on places in the real world to show you how they looked in the 1900s and offer you interactive cards in the same experience that contain more information about those places, helping you learn more about their history.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI

If you are at the same landmark that you are searching for, Google Maps can use your phone’s camera and overlay AR content in real-time. If you aren’t at the same location that you are searching, the platform overlays AR content on the Street View.

Google Maps AR Experience

As you might have guessed, AR Experience will be available only for places and structures that have cultural, social, military, or political importance. One of the places for which Google is currently offering the feature is the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Soon, the company could make AR Experience available for more historic places.

Google Maps' AR Experience to get even better soon

Google says that later this summer, AR Experience will let you go back as far as the 18th century. “Visit Notre-Dame Cathedral and its surroundings as it existed in 1789, explore a 3D recreation of the Bastille Saint-Antoine prior to the French Revolution, or tour the storied Palais des Tuileries before its demolition hundreds of years ago.

The story continues after the video…

To use AR Experience, search for a historic location, such as the Eiffel Tower, and then click on the AR Experience feature. Google hasn’t revealed when will it start rolling out the new feature and for which platforms will it make AR Experience available.
