Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba beats India’s Amit Panghal 4:1 in points in the Boxing Men’s 51kg Round of 16 bout. 

Amit trails after the second round as well. Two judges award him a ten while three others award the Zambian ten points.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto succumbed to their third consecutive loss in Group C of the Women’s doubles event with a 15-21, 10-21 loss to Australia’s Setyana Mapasa and Angela Yu. 

The Indian pair ends the group stage with three loses and finish fourth in Group C. 

India gets the much needed two points to move up five points from three games. It had to face some heat in the second half against some fluent Ireland attack, but a win nonetheless for Harmanpreet Singh and his side.

Paris 2024 Olympics: India men’s hockey team seals second win of Group Stage with victory over Ireland

Harmanpreet Singh scored a brace to help the Indian men’s hockey team complete its second win in Pool B of the Paris 2024 Olympics with a 2-0 win over Ireland at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium on Tuesday.

A clean sweep for the teenager who now moves to the 1/8 finals or the Round of 16. While she had some trouble to get going in the first match, she storms through in the second.

India continues to go from strength from strength. Ireland has shown better cohesion in attack but India’s defence stands resolute to keep it at bay. India would have an eye on its goal difference too, given it faces Belgium and Australia in the coming matches.

India doubles its lead after Harmanpreet Singh scores his second goal of the match. India got three PCs on the trot and make the final one count.

India’s Ankita Bhakat will be in action in the Round of 64 followed by Bhajan Kaur.

If they win today, they’ll play their Round of 32 matches today.

A dominant 1st quarter for India. It could have been 2-0 had India converted its penalty corner early on. Craig Fulton will still be pleased with what he has seen in the opening period.

The event has been postponed by a day over concerns about water quality in Paris’ Seine river where it was supposed to take place.

The women’s competition is also scheduled on Wednesday, but both will be subject to water tests.

A timing of 7:05.10 for the Indian rower, his best so far. But it will only get him into the C/D semifinals where he can end between the places 13 and 24.

Panwar is fifth after 3/4th of the race. 5:17.22 to clear the mark. The Bulgarian is now nearly five seconds faster. The Indian looks set to end fifth.

The top three have pulled ahead now. Panwar crosses the half-way point in 3:29.24 and stays fifth. The Bulgarian rower is over two seconds faster than Panwar. He will need to really start accelerating if he wants to get into the top three.

Balraj Panwar completes the first 500m in 1:42.28. He is fifth right now but not too far behind the Bulgarian in the fourth place. He recorded a speed ofn 16.88 km/h in the first 500m distance.

And it begins. Panwar has to finish in the top three to get into the semifinals. 

A relatively slow start for the Indian, he is sixth at the moment, running 9.2m behind the leader.

The first three quarterfinals are done. It is time for Balraj Panwar’s race. He will be in the sixth lane.

The quarterfinals of the men’s single sculls are underway. 

Panwar will be in action in the fourth race.

Sarabjot Singh: Quite good. It was a tough match, a lot of pressure.

India wins a bronze. Manu and Sarabjot had opened a healthy lead at 14-6 which ensured it had enough breathing space after conceding those two back-to-back series.

The only Indian rower in Paris 2024, Balraj Panwar, is on the verge of making history. He will compete in the men’s single sculls quarterfinals. If he finishes in the top three, he will be the first Indian to qualify for the semifinals in single sculls.

It seems one of the most needlessly cruel bits of modern sports’ business to subject athletes to a question-and-answer session minutes following a painful loss. It’s nothing but a postmortem of their own deceased hopes and dreams.

And yet, in the mixed zone following the final of the 10m air rifle event competition at the Paris Olympics, Arjun Babuta was asked, “What do you remember of the last time you finished fourth in a competition?”

As far as defeats go, nothing would seem as bitter to Babuta as the one he had to swallow at the shooting range at Chateauroux on Monday morning. He flirted with the chance to make Indian sporting history before eventually finishing fourth.

Japan was on top of the Paris Olympics 2024 medal tally on Tuesday after winning six gold, two silver and four bronze.
