The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are the first phones to run One UI 6.1.1. It brings several new, fun, and useful AI-powered features. One such feature is Live Effect Wallpapers. This feature can turn any regular image with a person in it into a live wallpaper with a parallax effect.

One UI 6.1.1 Live Effect wallpapers work with regular images

The Live Effect feature, which debuted with One UI 6.1.1, can separate a subject from the background in an image. It uses AI-powered algorithms to identify a person or a pet in a regular image and separate it from the background. Those two things are then projected in 3D to create a parallax effect.

Samsung has explained this feature in detail and showcased it on its Community Forum webpage for the South Korean market. It basically uses the company's Image Clipper feature, which debuted with One UI 5.1, and extracts two images from a regular photo. It also uses the AI Eraser feature debuted with One UI 6.1 to fill the empty space in the background. Then, it imposes the object on that background image with motion effects.

The Live Effects feature might not work on images with too many or very small subjects. The feature will likely be released to all high-end phones running One UI 6.1 with the One UI 6.1.1-equivalent update in the next few months.

The story continues after the video…

How to create Live Effect wallpapers on Samsung phones and tablets?

To create a Live Effect wallpaper, open any image on your phone (running One UI 6.1.1) with a person or a pet in it. Then, when you swipe up from the bottom of that image in the stock Gallery app, you can see a chip called ‘Live Effect.' After you tap it, the phone takes a few seconds to create a Live Wallpaper. Once it is ready, it starts moving around. You can share that video or save it as an MP4 file.

Once the video is saved, you can set it as your phone's home screen or lock screen wallpaper. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Long-press on the home screen or the lock screen and tap on Wallpaper and Style
  2. Click on Change Wallpapers » Gallery and then choose the video you saved from the gallery view.
  3. You can tap on Trim to trim the video as per your liking and then tap on ‘Done' to set the wallpaper.
