New Canadian North Training Center Opens With Advanced CAE 7000XR Simulator And Notable Attendees

Canadian North has proudly introduced its cutting-edge CAE 7000XR Boeing 737NG Full-Flight Simulator (FFS) at a new, 30,000 square foot training facility at Edmonton International Airport. The grand opening took place on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, and featured notable attendees including Canadian North’s Vice-President of Flight Operations, Aaron Speer, and Chief Financial Officer, Nick Purich. The event was marked by the presence of Edmonton International Airport representatives, CAE, EFC Developments, and distinguished guests such as the Honourable Nate Glubish, Alberta Minister of Technology and Innovation, the Honourable Rick Wilson, Alberta Minister of Indigenous Relations, and the Honourable Mike Lake, P.C., M.P. for Edmonton-Wetaskiwin. Glenn Belozer, Deputy Mayor of Leduc County, and other key figures from government and industry also celebrated this milestone.

In keeping with Canadian North’s commitment to its Inuit heritage, respected elder Maina Manniapik performed a traditional Qulliq lighting ceremony, blessing the new facility.

This advanced simulator represents a significant advancement for the Canadian aviation sector, addressing the growing demand for B737NG pilot training. The state-of-the-art facility allows pilots to train and maintain their skills domestically, ensuring convenient access to essential training. From executing flight deck procedures and emergency checklists to simulating various flying scenarios, the simulator is a vital resource for pilot development.

The establishment of this training center also signifies a boost for Alberta’s and Edmonton’s evolving economies, with future plans to expand the facility and incorporate additional aviation training resources.

The new simulator is set to become operational in August. Those interested in booking training sessions can do so through Canadian North. Additionally, Canadian North currently operates a ‘Level D’ 737-300 Full-Flight Simulator at Edmonton International Airport.
