Ormax Media – Streaming Originals Mid-Year report: ‘Panchayat S3’ is most-watched hindi web series; ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ is top film

 

Ormax Media has recently unveiled its mid-year Streaming Originals Mid-Year report, offering a comprehensive analysis of the Indian streaming scene from January to June 2024.

Speaking about the report Keerat Grewal, Business Development (Streaming, TV & Brands), said, “At Ormax Media, we have been working extensively to build industry data for the streaming category in India.

“In our effort to expand the scope of our data, this year’s edition of Streaming Originals in India Report includes Viewership, Marketing Buzz and Content Strength (OPR) for Telugu and Tamil languages as well, alongwith Hindi and International language content.

This is the mid-year report, for the period Jan-June 2024 and the top 3 most watched content pieces on streaming platforms during this period have been Panchayat S3 (28.2Mn) and Heeramandi (20.3Mn) and Indian Police Force (19.5Mn).

“B&B: Bujji and Bhairava, the animated prelude to the theatrical film Kalki 2898 AD, is the most-watched Telugu property at the halfway mark of the year, while Inspector Rishi tops the list of the most-watched OTT Tamil property thus far this year. Both had an estimated viewership of 4.9Mn,” Grewal added.

Viewership Trends

The report highlights the most-watched shows and films across various categories:

Hindi Web-Series: Prime Video’s Panchayat S3 emerges as the front-runner, nearing a staggering 30 million viewership mark. Notably, Disney+ Hotstar leads with five entries, showcasing the platform’s strong foothold in the Hindi web-series domain.

Hindi Unscripted Shows: JioCinema’s Bigg Boss OTT S3 dominates this category, underlining the diversity of non-fiction content on OTT platforms, with multiple genres garnering over 10 million viewers.

Hindi Films: Netflix asserts its dominance in the Hindi direct-to-OTT film category, with Amar Singh Chamkila leading the pack, followed closely by Murder Mubarak.

Regional Highlights: In Telugu, B&B: Bujji and Bhairava stands out, while Prime Video’s Inspector Rishi tops the Tamil charts, highlighting strong regional content preferences.

International Content: Internationally, sci-fi and fantasy genres gain significant traction, with Prime Video’s The Boys S4 emerging as the most-watched international show in India for 2024.

Marketing Buzz

The report also delves into the marketing buzz generated by various shows and films:

Hindi Shows: Panchayat S3 continues to lead with maximum buzz, closely followed by Netflix’s Heeramandi, illustrating the power of strong narratives and franchise appeal.

Hindi Films: Despite challenges, Netflix maintains a strong presence with four entries in the top buzzed direct-to-OTT films list.

International Content: Prime Video captures attention with The Boys S4 and Fallout leading the buzz charts, reinforcing the platform’s global appeal.

Content Strength

Lastly, the report evaluates viewer appreciation based on Ormax Power Rating:

Hindi Shows: TVF’s Panchayat S3 and Kota Factory S3 garner the highest viewer appreciation, joined by Disney+ Hotstar’s The Legend Of Hanuman.

Regional Content: Telugu originals like ETV Win’s #90’s – A Middle Class Biopic and Prime Video’s B&B: Bujji and Bhairava stand out for their strong content appeal.

International Favorites: House Of The Dragon S2 leads as the most-liked international property, followed closely by Prime Video’s The Boys S4 and Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender.
