The Government of Canada has committed $108 million in federal funding to the Tourism Growth Program, aiming to bolster Canada’s vibrant tourism sector and attract more visitors to the country. British Columbia, known for its stunning natural attractions and unique arts and cultural experiences, has ambitious plans for its tourism industry. To support these plans, the Government of Canada is investing $14 million in British Columbia through the Tourism Growth Program, driving long-term growth.

Today, the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan), announced $250,000 in PacifiCan funding for the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society.

The Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society’s Honda Celebration of Light, a renowned fireworks competition, has been lighting up Vancouver’s skyline for over 30 years. This festival is a cornerstone of the city’s summer events, drawing over one million visitors to English Bay each year. It unites local residents and tourists, benefiting businesses and celebrating music, food, and culture.

With support from PacifiCan through the Tourism Growth Program, the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society will enhance the viewer experience with improved amenities, such as upgraded viewing areas, to meet the growing demand for this signature event.

Local tourism creates jobs, stimulates the economy, and elevates B.C. as a premier travel destination. Projects like today’s announcement deliver unforgettable experiences for visitors and British Columbians alike. PacifiCan’s investment is expected to attract 15 percent more out-of-town visitors to this year’s Honda Celebration of Light.
