Bhopal, July 16 (Udaipur Kiran) – Due to a cyclonic circulation and trough, a strong rain system has developed in Madhya Pradesh, leading to continuous rainfall across the state. So far, the state has received 27% of its seasonal average, amounting to 10.6 inches of rain. Today, heavy rain has been reported in Indore since 5:30 AM. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Bhopal and 15 other districts. Additionally, there is a likelihood of rain in Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain.
The Meteorological Department has explained that the monsoon trough has shifted slightly lower. A low-pressure system has become active in the Bay of Bengal, and a cyclone over western Rajasthan has merged with the monsoon trough. There is also a cyclonic circulation system over Gujarat, contributing to heavy rainfall. A new low-pressure area is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal on July 19-20, which will continue to bring heavy rains to the state.
Previously, on Monday, 19 districts in the state experienced heavy rainfall. In Sanawad, Khargone, a tanker was swept away in the flooded Bankur River. Water entered houses and shops in Barwaha, and the water level of the Narmada River rose by one meter. In Ashta, Sehore, and Agar-Malwa, the heavy rain turned roads into ponds. Mandla received the highest rainfall of 1 inch, with heavy rains also reported in Ratlam, Chhindwara, and Jabalpur. Indore, Sehore, Bhopal, Ratlam, Morena, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Umaria, Dhar, Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Khargone, Ratlam, and Shivpuri also experienced continuous rain.
Increased Water Levels in Dams
Due to the rain, the water levels in major dams across the state have risen. The water level in Kolar Dam in Sehore, Bansagar Dam in Shahdol, Omkareshwar Dam in Khandwa, Bargi Dam in Jabalpur, Tawa Dam in Narmadapuram, and Kaliasot Dam in Bhopal has increased by one to two feet. Continuous heavy rains are expected to raise the water levels even further.
Meteorologist Shivang Bakode has predicted heavy rain with lightning in western Guna, Indore/Andhra Pradesh, Dhar/Mandu, Khargone/Maheshwar, Khandwa/Omkareshwar, Sehore, Narsinghpur, and Seoni. Additionally, moderate thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Raisen/Bhimbetka, Vidisha, Bhopal, Sagar, Dewas, Shajapur, Balaghat, Chhindwara, Barwani, Alirajpur, and Jhabua. Light showers with lightning are expected in Bairagarh, Agar Malwa, Ashoknagar, northern Betul, Rajgarh, Pandhurna, Harda, Damoh, Sanchi, Udaygiri, Jabalpur, Sheopur Kalan, Ratlam, Mandla/Kanha, and Dindori in the morning.
