KAYAKING/BIRDING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. Bring your binoculars and join an educator on a peaceful morning paddle around Moreau Lake and also look for birds! ART CLASS PART 3: The Village of Ballston Spa, its Committee on the Arts, and artists Ottavia Huang of Ms. Otter Studio and Maria DeAngelo of ArtyLadyMsD, proudly announce “Everyday Sketching: A Watercolor and Ink Class.” This three-session class seeks participants to foster a deeper connection with the world around them, celebrating the art of observation and expression through watercolor and ink. The three sessions will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library, 21 Milton Ave, from noon to 3pm in the Community Room. Part 1 on June 29: Fundamentals of Sketching. Part 2 on July 6: Working with Watercolor and Ink. Part 3 on July 13: Capturing Everyday Scenes. This class is for all skill levels. SEED JOURNEY: The public is welcome to drop in at Slate Valley Museum for coffee, conversation, and interactive creative experiences at its monthly Seed Journey Session exploring corn with 2024 Artist-in-Residence Serena Kovalosky on Saturday, July 13. At 10:30am, Gilchrist will present “A Kernel of Knowledge: The History and Science of Corn, Its Importance to Our Food Supply, and Its Relevance in Our Everyday Lives.” A question and answer period will follow the talk. From 12:30 to 3:30pm, Kovalosky will provide a “Seed Journey” experience as she shares a brief history of the cultural significance of corn in Latin American indigenous cultures while offering instruction on stringing dried corn seeds and husks on beading wire. The strands will become part of a large-scale community art installation exploring historical links of certain fruits and vegetables with Slate Valley immigrants from the 1840s to the present. Kovalosky’s brief talk, as well as a tour of her museum studio and residency project, will be offered throughout the afternoon as new visitors arrive. Since the Slate Valley is renowned for its variety of colored slate quarried in the region, visitors will also be invited to string tiny glass seed beads in the colors of Slate Valley slate as an additional component to the installation. Children and those who wish to work on a smaller project with larger beads will have the option to create friendship bracelets in the Slate Valley slate colors. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. All activities are included in the museum’s regular admission price, which is $5 per person (ages 12+), $3 for senior citizens, and free for children under 12, slate workers and their families, veterans, and current military members.

POLLINATOR WORKSHOP/SALE: Hudson Crossing park is excited to announce a Pollinator Plant Sale and Workshop on July 14th from 9 am-12pm. Hudson Crossing Park gardening experts will demonstrate how the HCP pollinator gardens were designed and planted, provide guidance on plant selection, and host a unique basket weaving demonstration. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase from a selection of over 20 different species of native plants. The plants available have been grown in a Catskills nursery from locally sourced seeds, including some from Hudson Crossing Park’s very own gardens. The plant selection includes a variety of light and moisture conditions, heights, colors, flower shapes, and bloom times. Varieties of Bee Balm, Asters, Beardtongue, Hyssop, Mint, and Wild Senna are just a few of the natives that will be available. Additionally, there will be a set up of the lasagna method of preparing a bed using cardboard and wood chips, providing an excellent opportunity to learn about sustainable gardening practices. Kate Littrell, Senior Environmental Scientist of the New York State Canal Corporation, will be weaving baskets using invasive bittersweet, an aggressive vine found growing in many wooded sites in our area. This hands-on workshop, part of the On the Canals program sponsored by the New York State Canal Corporation, is free to the public and recommended for ages 7 and up. iNATURALIST TUTORIAL: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Join an educator at the nature center for a lesson on how to set up and use an iNaturalist account, followed by a brief walk to test our your skills and kick-start your new account. iNaturalist is a community science app for those who have a love for the outdoors. Users photograph, identify, and learn about the life around them. Observations are reviewed to ensure accuracy in IDs so that they can be used in scientific research characterizing migration/seasonal patterns and ecology on a large scale. Geared for ages 14+. Class is $5 per adult, $1 for under 18 (cash or check). SUNDAY STROLL: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of the Sunday Strolls. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tours highlight the Gut neighborhood, mail-order houses on the east side, the diverse history of the historic West Side, mansions of North Broadway, and much more. The Summer Sunday Strolls historically sell out early, so do not wait to buy your tickets! On July 14, Debbie Studwell will lead the tour “Skidmore’s First Home.” Explore the area formerly home to the Young Women’s Industrial Club of Saratoga, which would later become Skidmore College. Meet at the southeast corner of Spring & Circular Streets. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. HISTORICAL DEMONSTRATION: Saratoga National Historical Park presents “Uniforming the Continental Army” at 10am on the Visitor Center lawn. The American Northern Army encamped at Saratoga Battlefield in 1777 included thousands of Continental soldiers from New England, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. These soldiers wore a variety of colorful uniforms made of wool or linen, all of which needed to be hand tailored. Their leather shoes were made by hand using a careful, painstaking process. Come to the park to see an 18th-century tailor and cordwainer (not a cobbler!) make these uniform parts using authentic period techniques.
SECRET GARDENS TOUR: Eleven unique gardens in Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa Wilton are featured on the 29th annual Saratoga Soroptimist Secret Gardens Tour from 10 am to 4 pm Sunday, July 14. RESILIENT GARDENING: Hudson Crossing Park is excited to announce its Resilient Gardening Series, a hands-on monthly workshop series dedicated to promoting sustainable gardening practices. This program is free to the public, made possible by the generous support of the New York State Canal Corporation’s On the Canals Program. Held once a month, these workshops are designed to meet the gardening needs of each season. WALKING IN NATURE: Summer is the perfect time of year to get into the healthy habit of walking outdoors. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The walks are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The walks usually cover about 1.5 miles of trail. The walks all begin at 10:30 am, but each week will start from a different one of the park’s trailheads. The walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators. Future dates are July 29 and August 12 and 26. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. AGING IN THE COMMUNITY: Members of the public are invited to Greenwich Free Library on Wednesday July 17 at 11:00 am for the second in a series about remaining in community as one ages, presented by Barbara Price, BCPA. The theme for this event is Having Conversations about End of Life Wishes. This 90-minute session will cover the major topics to think about and how to get started on the conversations. WALKING TOUR: The Saratoga County History Center has announced its popular county-wide walking tour program for the 2024 season. This year’s tours will all be held on Wednesdays in July and September in locations throughout Saratoga County. Registration is available at the History Center’s website https://brooksidemuseum.org/. Suggested donations for the tours are $10. Specific directions will be available upon registration. July 17 at 10am: Great Ladies Tour with Dr. Hollis Palmer. The tour will be based on stories from his book “Saratoga’s Great Ladies” focusing on the families that lived in the Victorian mansions along this broad avenue. BUTTERFLY WALK: Wilton Wildlife is offering free walks on Wednesdays, starting on May 29 and continuing through July 31. The walks will take place weekly at 1:30 pm and leave from the parking area at Old Gick Farm on Route 50, which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. The walks last about an hour and cover a mile of gently rolling terrain. The walks will not take place if there is rain. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. BINGO: Knights of Columbus #246 hosts Bingo at the KOC Hall located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, every Wednesday evening. Before each Upbeat on the Roof concert, Tang museum educators will offer Crafts on the Grass, art-making kits for kids starting at 5:30 pm. A different kit with a craft project will be available each week. All projects are suitable for children aged 5 and up, with adult supervision. BEE CLASS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 11am. Join an educator at the nature center to talk about how important our bees and pollinators are, talk about their habits and how sophisticated they can “bee!” We will then go on a short walk to look for pollinators. Geared toward ages 5+

GREENFIELD FARMERS MARKET: The Town of Greenfield Recreation Department has revamped its Greenfield Farmers Market, which will be held Thursday evenings, 4-7 pm at Middle Grove Park, 428 Middle Grove Rd. POND EXPLORATION: Back by popular demand, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park’s Pond Exploration Programs are running again this summer! This reoccurring program takes place on Friday mornings beginning on July 19 and runs through August 23 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Participants can use the dip nets that are provided to search for pond life, including frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, crayfish, and aquatic insects. Free parking is available in Parking Lot #1 located on Scout Road, directly across from the pond. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. CHURCH GARAGE/BAKE SALE: The Galway United Methodist Church will hold its annual Garage and Bake Sale on Friday, July 19 from 9-5 and Saturday, July 20 from 9-3. This sale is a multi-family sale that includes clothing, furniture, sporting goods, toys, tools, household items, collectibles, electronics, books, baby items and much more. The sale is held indoors come rain or shine. A bake sale will be held at the same time. The public is welcome to attend. The church is located at the corner of Rte. 147 and CR 45 in the Village of Galway.
WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. DANCE WORKSHOP: Easton Library, Greenwich Free Library, and EarthBeat Music invite the community to celebrate global music and dance with two master musicians from Guinea, West Africa. The Tang Teaching Museum’s annual community open house features contemporary art exhibitions, art-making activities, tours, food, music, and more in honor of the museum’s namesake, Frances Young Tang, Skidmore College Class of 1961. This year’s Frances Day features “Mark Dion and Alexis Rockman: Journey to Nature’s Underworld,” a new exhibition that fills the museum’s largest gallery spaces with large-scale painted and sculptural works addressing humankind’s strained relationship with the environment and its vast ecological consequences. In addition to guided tours of the exhibition, visitors can learn about sustainability, take a tour of the trees on the museum’s grounds, and engage in multiple art-making projects inspired by the exhibition, including Recycled Earth form Crayons, Illuminated Landscapes, Bug Boxes, and Recycled Map Flowers. At 5 pm, acclaimed Capital Region musician and performer Taína Asili and her ensemble take the stage for an energetic concert. PLEIN AIR WORKSHOP: Come to Pitney Meadows Farm at 9:30am for a plein air watercolor shadow workshop. Join us at the Community Garden for a morning of art, outside in the beautiful landscape. We will be creating watercolor paintings in the field, seeking inspiration from all that is growing around us. Using the shadows cast on our paper by the nature around us, we will outline the shadow and use watercolor to bring it to life on paper.
HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Take a fun and somewhat challenging hike around Lake Bonita and enjoy the shade of a very full canopy of trees. There are some challenging water crossings, so some people feel best crossing these wet spots with trekking poles. Please

DRUMMING WORKSHOP: At Pitney Meadows Farm, 6pm, open to all ages. Join EarthBeat Music for a hands-on African drumming workshop. West African hand drums will be provided and you will be shown how to get into a groove from the moment your hands meet the drums. Drums are among the world’s oldest musical instruments. POND EXPLORATION: Back by popular demand, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park’s Pond Exploration Programs are running again this summer! This reoccurring program takes place on Friday mornings beginning on July 19 and runs through August 23 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Participants can use the dip nets that are provided to search for pond life, including frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, crayfish, and aquatic insects. WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. KIDS’ TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. This hike will be slow and steady to let the kids explore and enjoy an off-trail hike at their own pace. We will walk roughly a mile and see the Hudson from another view point and perhaps throw some sticks in! This hike is NOT stroller friendly so if you have a younger sibling who wants to join, plan to carry them if they get
tired. Bring water, and snacks are more than welcome. This hike is $1 per kid. Please register in advance by calling 518-793-0511.
TRAIL WORK WEDNESDAY: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Calling all trail steward volunteers or lovers of trails to help do some light trail work on one of our trails for a couple of hours or as long as you would like. You will be led and taught skills by one of our staff where we will be using loppers, hand saws and clearing any trash we come across. Please bring water, wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, closed toed shoes/hiking shoes, eye protection, and work gloves if you have them. WALKING TOUR: The Saratoga County History Center has announced its popular county-wide walking tour program for the 2024 season. This year’s tours will all be held on Wednesdays in July and September in locations throughout Saratoga County. Registration is available at the History Center’s website https://brooksidemuseum.org/. Suggested donations for the tours are $10. Specific directions will be available upon registration. July 31 at 10am: LakeHill Road Burnt Hills with Rick Reynolds. Ballston Town Historian Rick Reynolds will be returning to take tour attendees on a 2-mile stroll and hear tales of the farms, stores, schools and a wallpaper factory along Lakehill Road. Rick will look back into history, but also peer into the future of Burnt Hills. A bus will bring walkers back to their cars at Stevens School after the tour.

BINGO: Knights of Columbus #246 hosts Bingo at the KOC Hall located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, every Wednesday evening. This reoccurring program takes place on Friday mornings beginning on July 19 and runs through August 23 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. SUNDAY STROLL: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of the Sunday Strolls. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tours highlight the Gut neighborhood, mail-order houses on the east side, the diverse history of the historic West Side, mansions of North Broadway, and much more. The Summer Sunday Strolls historically sell out early, so do not wait to buy your tickets! On August 4, Join Charlie Kuenzel for an entertaining and educational stroll through “Historic Congress Park.” Meet in front of the Canfield Casino in Congress Park. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours are limited to 30 and tickets must be purchased in advance. HOOKED ON NATURE: A fiber arts meetup at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Grab your yarn, needles, and lawn chairs and get outdoors into the fresh air with other fiber arts hobbyists! Share your love of nature with other crafters while working in a lovely natural setting. This twice-a-month meet-up will be taking place at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road in Wilton. This is a casual get-together for people to share their works-in-progress, in any fiber based medium. Materials will not be provided, but advice and guidance will be, by the other group attendees. ARTIST JAM: The second Friday of each month from 4-6 pm at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway. Artist Jam is a social event for teen and adult artists in the community to get together and enjoy a relaxing workspace. WETLAND EXPLORATION: Back by popular demand, Wilton Wildlife will once again be partnering with Saratoga PLAN, helping visitors learn about the diverse aquatic ecosystem of the Round Lake Preserve. Participants will start with a leisurely stroll down the boardwalk while learning about the organisms that call the Preserve home. The program ends with a fun scavenger hunt to earn a prize! These programs will take place on Wednesday mornings on July 17 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and August 14th from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Registration is strongly encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Programs may be canceled due to inclement weather. CRAFTS ON THE GRASS: At the Tang Museum at Skidmore College. Before each Upbeat on the Roof concert, Tang museum educators will offer Crafts on the Grass, art-making kits for kids starting at 5:30 pm. A different kit with a craft project will be available each week. All projects are suitable for children aged 5 and up, with adult supervision. Materials will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
TEEN/TWEEN ADVISORY GROUP: Ballston Spa Public Library is pleased to announce the formation of a Tween/ Teen Advisory Group (TAG). This new group is intended for students entering 6th grade through 10th grade. The group will meet on August 15th from 6pm-9pm. TAG gives middle and high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, brainstorm and help execute imaginative programs and recommend purchases for the library. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for tweens and teens to have recreational opportunities as well as social and emotional support. This reoccurring program takes place on Friday mornings beginning on July 19 and runs through August 23 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Participants can use the dip nets that are provided to search for pond life, including frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, crayfish, and aquatic insects. RESILIENT GARDENING: Hudson Crossing Park is excited to announce its Resilient Gardening Series, a hands-on monthly workshop series dedicated to promoting sustainable gardening practices. This program is free to the public, made possible by the generous support of the New York State Canal Corporation’s On the Canals Program. Held once a month, these workshops are designed to meet the gardening needs of each season. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including planting, mulching, weeding, maintaining, and seed collecting for the next season. Additionally, attendees will learn to identify and safely remove common invasive species such as bittersweet, knotweed, and honeysuckle. WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. SUNDAY STROLL: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of the Sunday Strolls. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tours highlight the Gut neighborhood, mail-order houses on the east side, the diverse history of the historic West Side, mansions of North Broadway, and much more. The Summer Sunday Strolls historically sell out early, so do not wait to buy your tickets! On August 18, join Gloria May for “The Women of Greenridge Cemetery,” a tour of Greenridge Cemetery to learn about the prominent and influential women, as well as the ordinary, who are buried in Greenridge Cemetery and how their life stories tell the history of Saratoga Springs. Meet at the Sackett Gate entrance of Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Avenue. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours are limited to 30 and tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. FULL MOON OWL PROWL: Experience the magic of Hudson Crossing Park after dark with our Full Moon Owl Prowls, held on the full moon of every month from June through October. HOOKED ON NATURE: A fiber arts meetup at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Grab your yarn, needles, and lawn chairs and get outdoors into the fresh air with other fiber arts hobbyists! Share your love of nature with other crafters while working in a lovely natural setting. This twice-a-month meet-up will be taking place at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road in Wilton. This is a casual get-together for people to share their works-in-progress, in any fiber based medium. Materials will not be provided, but advice and guidance will be, by the other group attendees. SIP AND PAINT FOR KIDS: The Slate Valley Museum will continue to expand its painting on slate workshops this year with a special two-part summer series specially geared toward kids ages 9 and up. The museum will offer its second workshop on August 23 featuring a moonlit summer evening over the water. No art experience is necessary and beginning painters are welcome. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $25 per person per workshop and include all art materials, one beverage ticket, and a selection of snacks. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. WALKING IN NATURE: Summer is the perfect time of year to get into the healthy habit of walking outdoors. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The walks are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The walks usually cover about 1.5 miles of trail. The walks all begin at 10:30 am, but each week will start from a different one of the park’s trailheads. The walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators. At lunch the BASC Members may participate in Congregate Meals for $2 OR bring your own lunch, your choice. Pizza every 3rd Thursday at 12:00 noon. On the fourth Thursday it is Pot Lunch at 11:30 am, to participate bring something to share or pay $3 at meal time. Coffee and hot water for tea will be available. Regular scheduled activities: 1st Thursday—Bring a lunch, play games, Bingo after lunch if enough players. 2nd Thursday—Bring a lunch, Speaker, General meeting and Bingo if enough players. 3rd Thursday—Board meeting, Pizza, Bingo if enough players. 4th Thursday— General meeting Pot lunch at 11:30 am bring something to share or $3, Bingo if enough players. 5th Thursday— Gameday, general meeting, Bingo if enough players. 1:00 pm—4:00 pm—Table Pool.

GREENFIELD FARMERS MARKET: The Town of Greenfield Recreation Department has revamped its Greenfield Farmers Market, which will be held Thursday evenings, 4-7 pm at Middle Grove Park, 428 Middle Grove Rd. It will feature more than 20 vendors, rotating food trucks, and weekly entertainment throughout its season from June 20-September 19.

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. This event does not have sign ups, please come if you can. We meet at the nature center parking lot. $1 per child. For any questions call 518-793-0511.
BALLSTON AREA SENIORS ACTIVITIES: The Ballston Area Seniors will be meeting at the Town of Milton Community Center, 310 Northline Rd. Ballston Spa. Fridays: 1 pm-3 pm first Friday of the month Special Activities TBA, 11:15 am-noon – Exercise, 6:30 pm-9 pm – Table Pool.
