3 new Xbox Game Pass games to play this weekend (July 12-14)
The main character in Neon White sinks in the water.

Another weekend is upon us, so you're probably looking for some new games to play over the course of it. Thankfully, video game subscription services like Xbox Game Pass offer up lots of great options if you're looking for something new to play and keep adding more every week. These first two weeks of July have been particularly solid for Xbox Game Pass, as several titles well worth your time just came to the service. I'm highlighting three of those here.

First is a creative first-person shooter where you must play cards in order to use your weapons and complete increasingly difficult action-platforming challenges. Next is an entertaining crossover fighting game that lets players pit their favorite Nickelodeon characters against each other. Finally, we have a The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-inspired indie game based on the Pacific islands of New Caledonia that was one of my favorite indie games of 2023.

These are the games we’re still looking forward to in 2024
Yasuke in Assassin's Creed Shadows fighting an enemy. He's dressed in his samurai armor.

Going into 2024, I expected a slow year. We were coming off the highs of 2023, and we knew that heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto 6 were waiting for 2025. I expected a transitional year full of niche hidden gems. Boy was I wrong. This year has nearly matched 2023 already thanks to games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, and much more. The wild part? 2024 feels like it hasn't even gotten started yet.

The back half of this year is looking loaded thanks to a dense holiday season. Xbox will get an influx of games, PlayStation will chase the family market once again, and the Nintendo Switch is getting one heck of a final gasp. That's only a small piece of the pie too. Third-parties will deliver anticipated blockbusters like Silent Hill 2's remake and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, while the indie scene is bringing some genre-bending creativity. So what should be on your radar for the rest of 2024? Here's what we're especially looking forward to.

3 multiplayer PS Plus games you should try this weekend (July 12-14)
Promo art for Borderlands 3.

While we love a great single-player game, we're always always down for a great multiplayer experience -- and there's no shortage of ways to get those these days. Many of the most popular multiplayer games are free-to-play, which drastically lowers the barrier of entry for new players. Some are still paid, though, and you might not know whether the monetary investment into a game is worth it in the edge case that your friend group doesn't like it. Thankfully, many of these full-price multiplayer games are available for no additional cost through PlayStation Plus Extra.

Heading into the weekend, I want to highlight three of those games. The first is an intense 5v5 competitive shooter from Ubisoft that emphasizes environmental destruction and tactical play. Next is the most successful asynchronous multiplayer game in the horror genre, where players must avoid a powerful killer as weak survivors. Finally, there's a colorful cooperative shooter available via PS Plus Essential this month that everyone reading this should redeem if they can.
