Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in South Gujarat

Surat, July 13 (Udaipur Kiran): Several districts of South Gujarat received torrential rains since Saturday morning. Heavy rains in Gandevi in Valsad and Navsari districts submerged the entire area. 4 inches of rain was recorded in Valsad on Saturday. Many roads were submerged after the rains, affecting traffic. A car got stuck on a bridge in Palsana, Pardi, which was pulled out with the help of a JCB. In Gandevi, Navsari district, it rained 5.5 inches in 4 hours. The village of Kharsad in Jalalpore was turned into an island. It rained in 48 talukas of the state from 6 am to 12 noon.

Due to heavy rains in the upper areas (water catchment areas) of Valsad district, water has started flowing into the Madhuvan Dam. Due to this, four gates of the Madhuvan Dam have been opened half a meter. 14,216 cusec of water is coming into the dam. Due to this, 7288 cusec of water is being released from the dam into the Damanganga river. People in the lower areas of the Damanganga river have been advised not to go near the river.

On the other hand, due to heavy rains in Valsad, 11 roads of the district have been closed for traffic. Traffic has been stopped on 11 low-level bridges due to water accumulation. The village of Kharsad in Jalalpore, Navsari district, has been turned into an island due to torrential rains. Flood-like situation has arisen in 5 surrounding villages. The main roads are like rivers. The water level in the rivers of Navsari district has increased. The water level of the Kaveri river has risen by more than one foot. The bridge connecting Ataliya Udatach is in danger of being submerged due to rising water in the river. If this bridge is submerged, many villages will have to take a long detour to travel.

According to the Meteorological Department, it rained in 168 out of the 252 talukas of the state in the last 24 hours till Saturday morning. A total of 28.12% of the average monsoon rainfall has been recorded in the state. Of this, the highest 37.55% rainfall has been recorded in the Saurashtra zone. Apart from this, a total of 34.91% rainfall in the Kutch zone, 31.88% in South Gujarat, only 18.48% in North Gujarat. 18.72% rainfall has been recorded in East-Central Gujarat.

  • 40 mm in Waghai of Dang,
  • 30 mm in Dolvan of Tapi,
  • 28 mm in Sagbara of Narmada,
  • 28 mm in Kaprada of Valsad,
  • 28 mm in Vapi and
  • 28 mm in Nijhar of Tapi district.
