TROY, N.Y. — One of the most loved events in the Capital Region, the Troy Pig Out, is back with a full day of fun where culinary competitors duke it out for the best BBQ and people flock to Downtown Troy to taste some of the area’s best food, announced organizer the Downtown Troy Business Improvement District.

This year’s event takes place throughout the footprint of Downtown Troy. Walk to the favorite participating locations to purchase $4 or $5 samples of BBQ options.

Non-Downtown Troy restaurants can be found throughout the Downtown from Monument Square to Broadway. This event will take place throughout the streets of Downtown Troy on August 18 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It’s time for businesses and competitors to sign up for the Troy Pig Out. To participate in Troy Pig Out, the BID asks that restaurants serve $4 or $5 samples of any BBQ option they would like.

Each individual business will sell food from their storefront and is responsible for their own sales and keeps all their own proceeds, the BID said. Chefs are welcome to sell additional items alongside their Pig Out offerings — a premium product, larger plates of BBQ, etc. — at their discretion.

Based on past events the crowd has brought in close to 5,000+ people. The BID asks vendors to please use expertise to the best of their knowledge to account for how much product they will need to sell.

Non-BID restaurants are welcome to participate and will be given a vendor space or will be paired with a Downtown Troy business if a bar or retail would like to offer. This is a BBQ competition, and they will be breaking out categories for people’s choice and Downtown Troy’s Best of BBQ.

The Pig Out will not be accepting amateurs; restaurants and businesses only. Applications and more information can be found at downtowntroyny.org/pig-out-2024.

The BID asks vendors to please return applications by July 29. If not returned by then, they will not be included in any paid marketing efforts.

Attendees can also join a hot dog eating contest sponsored by Famous Lunch on Broadway and 5th (next to Nighthawks). If interested in participating in the Hot Dog Contest, please fill out the application form adding “hot dog” to the subject line.

People may sign up on the day of the event on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are two rounds at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
