William “Bill” Drake, a cherished member of the Aspen community, passed away on January 16, 2024, in Carbondale, Colorado. Born in Denver on December 13, 1967, and raised in Aspen, Bill was the beloved son of the late Pat and John “Panama” Drake, owners of the Ullrhof restaurant on Snowmass Mountain. He is survived by his brother, Bert Drake.

Bill was known for his compassionate nature, especially as the primary caregiver for his mother during her final years. He shared deep bonds with his family, such as mentoring his youngest cousin, Toby, and spending many happy hours with his cousins Carlanan, Phillip, Michael, and Tracy. All of his family dearly loved Bill.

Bill excelled as a respected and well-liked manager at the Ullrhof Restaurant, where he worked closely with his parents, and at the Snowmass Athletic Club. He was honored as Colorado’s Groomer of the Year for his exceptional work as a snowcat operator. He accepted the award with humility. Bill often expressed his appreciation for the peacefulness of the mountains, the captivating sunsets, and the wildlife he encountered during his night shifts.

Bill enjoyed various interests in his youth, including racquetball, sailing on Reudi Lake, and day and night skiing on the Big Burn. He also hosted Texas Hold’em games, enjoyed reading and cribbage, and was an avid gamer. He was keenly interested in reading about history and politics.

Bill’s loving parents strongly influenced his values, instilling in him the importance of family, community, and compassion. Despite his reserved nature, he became a beloved Aspen community figure known for his reassuring voice and analytical mind.
Bill is survived by his brother, Bert Drake, sister-in-law Sue Drake, uncle Mike Garrison, his aunt Chandra Roehrs, and cousins Phillip Garrison, Carlanan Russ, Tracy Mund, Michael Garrison, Anna Roehrs, Toby Russ, and Leah.
As we remember Bill Drake, we celebrate a life of kindness, humility, and adventure. May his memory be a blessing and inspiration.
A celebration of life will take place at 461 Settlement Lane, Carbondale, CO 81623, from 1 to 5 p.m. on July 13, 2024.
