ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu has officially opened, setting a new standard for luxury, privacy, design, and world-class hospitality in Hakone’s renowned mountain hot-spring destination. Nestled in the serene Miyanoshita forested valley, this nine-suite retreat offers a unique blend of organic design, top-tier wellness programs, and culinary excellence in a natural paradise.

Located in a pristine valley within the Miyanoshita region, the retreat seamlessly combines meticulous organic design with premier wellness programs and exceptional culinary offerings in an unparalleled natural setting. This marks the debut of ESPACIO in Asia, following the success of ESPACIO The Jewel of Waikiki, a Forbes five-star, AAA diamond-winning property in Hawaii, voted #1 in Honolulu by Condé Nast Traveler readers.

Named after the deities Kirin, Phoenix, Tortoise, and Dragon, ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu, inspired by the Spanish term for “space” or “universe,” offers a tranquil sanctuary for a select few guests each night. The experience begins with a private cable car ride descending 100 meters into an untouched valley shaped by the serene Haya River.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into one of nine private villas, each designed to honor the surrounding natural environment. The suites are adorned with original artworks created through collaborations with various artists, including Karakami artist Toto Akihiko, sculptor Tomoya Tachibana, dyeing artist Shikeki Fukumoto, Kumiko craftsman Masanobu Shiozawa, and gold and silver leaf artist Hiroto Rakusho.

The villas, ranging from 92 to 385 square meters, feature spacious interiors, outdoor pavilions, and both indoor and outdoor baths. Some villas also include private saunas, swimming pools, and rooms for tea ceremonies and entertaining. All are fed by the pristine Dogashima hot spring, renowned among Hakone’s Seven Hot Springs. This sacred spring, founded by high priest Muso Soseki during the Nanbokucho period (1336 – 1392), continues to flow pure and soothing waters to each villa’s baths, maintaining a history of over 700 years.

ESPACIO The Hakone Geihinkan Rin-Poh-Ki-Ryu introduces ESPACIO SPA, offering an open-air Hakone lava cave bath, a luxury bedrock bath crafted from ancient Austrian marble, and seasonal spa treatments. Spa experiences are provided in a private treatment room, accompanied by indoor, outdoor, and bedrock baths.

Under the guidance of Michelin-starred Kyoto restaurant “Tominokoji Yamagishi” chef and founder Takahiro Yamagishi, the retreat delivers a curated culinary experience with in-suite dining. Menus, inspired by Hakone’s bounty, range from formal kaiseki presentations to creative interpretations of traditional nabe hotpot dinners. International sake sommelier Keita Akaboshi oversees the hotel’s sake collection and pairings, enhancing the overall dining experience.
