Our mindset plays a crucial role in shaping our reality. Whether positive or negative, it significantly impacts how we perceive the world and the outcomes we experience. Consider two individuals facing the same situation – a flat tire on their way to work. While one may see it as a setback, the other finds positivity and purpose in the event, leading to drastically different reactions and moods throughout the day.

As a business owner and rancher, I've experienced the highs and lows of entrepreneurship firsthand. My family's cattle operation has faced setbacks with our artificial insemination (AI) cattle breeding program over the past few years. After taking an AI class, I still consider myself a learner and not yet a seasoned veteran with hands-on cattle breeding experience. With our AI conception rate below average, it's especially challenging when we lose an AI-born calf at birth due to weather or sickness. Although AI is time, cost, and labor-intensive, I'm convinced that there's a purpose and reason behind everything that happens to us. As a result, I remain adamant that AI is the future direction we should take with breeding both our heifers and cows.

Analyzing past experiences and seeking ways to improve our breeding practices, even after losing AI-born calves, has been essential. By embracing each difficulty as an opportunity to learn and grow, I'm better prepared for future seasons, turning setbacks into valuable lessons for success. It's remarkable how a simple shift in perspective can pave the way for entirely different outcomes, no matter what we're doing in life.

Remember, it all starts with having the right mindset. Why is it essential to reframe how we perceive and interpret our situations? Last summer, our family's farm in Northeast Kansas faced an exceptionally dry spell. We couldn't seem to catch a break with rain. The worst part? Making it rain is entirely out of our control! During an evening run amidst the drought, I witnessed our neighbors receiving much-needed rain to the west and a beautiful rainbow to the east. Our farm was right in between. Rather than feeling resentful, I chose gratitude for the promise of better things ahead. Rainbows signify proof that God is always watching over us and always has our best interests in mind, even when we can't see it in the moment. He never leaves us, especially when things aren't going the way we want. When we focus on what He wants for us, it frees up the control we place on everything and allows us to control only what we can control! If we could release that weight, wouldn't life be more enjoyable?

As a 4th generation Kansas rancher, husband, father, men's mindset coach, and Army National Guard officer, I understand the weight of uncertainty and stress in our lives. That's why I'm hosting a free webinar focused on boosting resilience and gaining mental clarity for men who are feeling stuck and unclear about navigating life's challenges.
