RENSSELAER, N.Y. — Four hundred kids from the Capital Region got a chance to ‘circle the wagons,’ in the words of the great Chris Berman, as Buffalo Bills’ running-back James Cook came to Rensselaer Junior/Senior High School on Sunday, hosting “The James Cook Youth Football Camp” with FlexWork.

The event ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and attendees, ranging from ages six to 16, got the chance to take pictures with the Bills’ star rusher, play a brief game of two-hand touch, with Cook at quarterback, and also go through corresponding drills, mirroring a summer training camp.
On top of the 400 student-athletes, close to 100 volunteer coaches, medics, hydration supervisors, and check-in staff helped keep the camp organized, safe, and enjoyable.
Everyone was starstruck by Cook’s arrival, with a check-in line wrapping through the parking lot, from the football field at Rensselaer High, and plenty of old Bills’ memories being shared during the wait, proving the local gravity he carried.
Cook ran for 1,122 yards last season, with two touchdowns, as the Bills posted an 11-6 overall record in the regular season, winning the AFC East Division for a fourth straight season. In his second year since being drafted in the second round, out of the University of Georgia, Cook not only took the helm of the Buffalo backfield but emerged as a valuable target through the air for superstar quarterback Josh Allen, with 485 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Catching a touchdown pass from Cook seemed to make the day for the Capital Region’s youth with their own, budding football passions.
FlexWork Sports is an event management and marketing company specializing in camp development and operations, organizing experiences for professional athletes and coaches. Along with Cook, FlexWork is partnered with various NFL talents, such as New England Patriots pass-rusher Matthew Judon, New York Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, New York Jets wide-receiver Garrett Wilson, and many others around the country.
The proceeds from Sunday’s camp with the Bills’ star went towards providing scholarships to allow those like the 400 kids from the Capital Region, to chase their passions in the future.
