Introduction:
For the first time, Odisha Police is set to use AI-powered technology to manage traffic and crowds during the Rath Yatra. This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing public safety and traffic efficiency.
Partnership:
The initiative is in collaboration with IG Drones, an Odisha-based leading drone and AI company supported by StartUp Odisha. IG Drones has an extensive client base with both national and international reach.
Technology Integration:
This project includes advanced capabilities like congestion detection, vehicle counting, and real-time updates, integrated with drones and CCTV systems. These technologies will provide real-time traffic updates to devotees via the Traffic Command and Control Room.
Drone Deployment:
To ensure public safety, five state-of-the-art Jaga drones equipped with public announcement systems will be deployed. These drones will manage crowds and make real-time announcements, ensuring a smooth and orderly event. Jaga drones, inspired by Lord Jagannath, are high-tech surveillance tools excelling in security, defense, agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring.
Surveillance Network:
A citywide surveillance network will include fifty-five strategically positioned CCTV cameras and five additional drones to cover blind spots. This system will enhance public safety and improve incident response times.
Innovative Communication:
Odisha Police will introduce a WhatsApp ChatBot for real-time traffic monitoring and updates, aiding efficient city navigation. A detailed mobility plan includes high-capacity parking lots to manage crowds during key Yatra phases like Gundicha, Bahuda, and Sunabesh.
Traffic Management:
Augmented animated videos will guide traffic routes, and LED vans across the city will display real-time traffic updates. These updates, based on inputs from the Traffic Command and Control Center, will help minimize congestion.
Launch Date:
All these technological initiatives will be launched from July 6 onwards.
Official Statement:
Shri Dayal Gangwar, IPS, ADG Odisha Police, stated that the AI-powered technology will provide invaluable insights for smoother traffic flow and crowd control. The WhatsApp ChatBot will offer real-time traffic updates for effortless navigation. A meticulously crafted mobility plan, including dedicated high-capacity parking zones, will ensure seamless crowd management during peak phases of the Yatra. This system aims to enhance public safety and enable quicker response times in case of incidents.
Parking and Navigation:
AI technology will support real-time parking space information and route planning. A dedicated team of experts will monitor drone operations, ensuring safe and effective management and coordinating emergency responses in real-time.
Public Engagement:
Traffic updates, motion videos, and real-time activities will be shared on social media. A 24×7 helpline (73816-90900) will provide real-time updates from the Traffic Command Center, supporting public assistance and queries during the Rath Yatra.
Security Deployment:
A robust security force will be deployed, including Commandants, DCs, DSPs, Inspectors, Constables, and Home Guards. No-vehicle zones along Grand Road and from Hospital Crossing to Subash Bose Crossing will be strictly enforced.
Traffic Advisory:
A traffic mobility plan and parking arrangements have been prepared for around 500 buses, 5000 LMVs, and 20000 two-wheelers. Inter-state and tourist buses will stop at Malatipatapur Bus Stand, while regular passenger buses will proceed to Talabania Temporary Bus Stand.
Regulation Period:
Vehicular traffic regulation will be imposed from midnight on 06.07.2024 to midnight on 09.07.2024 and from midnight on 14.07.2024 to midnight on 16.07.2024. The entire Grand Road and the area from Hospital Crossing to Subas Bose Crossing will be designated as a no-vehicle zone.
Conclusion:
These innovative measures by Odisha Police underscore their commitment to transforming traffic management and enhancing public safety during the Rath Yatra, showcasing the transformative impact of technology in creating a safer and more efficient environment for all.
