NEET UG 2024 Counselling: The medical (MBBS, BDS, BUMS, BHMS, BAMS) admission counselling based on NEET UG 2024 score, scheduled to commence from today i.e. Saturday July 06, 2024, has been deferred till further notice.

NEET UG 2024 Counselling

The counselling for admission in undergraduate courses MBBS, BUMS, BHMS, B. Sc (Nursing), Paramedical and other medical courses is done nation-wide and by different states.

The NEET UG 2024 Counselling nationwide is done for 15% quota (AIQ) by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) headquartered in New Delhi. The MCC publishes the NEET UG Counselling Schedule on its website “mcc.nic.in” after the results are announced. It has so far not done so.

Similarly, NEET UG counselling in Maharashtra is done by Maharashtra CET Cell, by Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical
Educational Courses (ACPUGMEC) in Gujarat, by Directorate General of Medical Education and Training Uttar Pradesh (DGME UP) in Uttar Pradesh, by Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) in Kerala, by Department of Medical Education (DME) in Madhya Pradesh, by Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECE) in Bihar, by Tamil Nadu Medical Selection Committee in Tamil Nadu, by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) in Karnataka, NEET UG Medical and Dental Admission and Counseling Board in Rajasthan and other concerned government bodies in other states for the ramaining 85% seats.

These government bodies in various states start NEET UG medical counselling along with the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). But, they publish schedule of the counselling rounds after the MCC NEET UG counselling schedule is published.

Medical Admission Counselling Schedule 2024

The MCC and medical counselling bodies in various states have dedicated websites for MBBS, BDS, BHMS and BUMS counselling along with paramedical and other candidates where detailed counselling schedule as well as counselling and admission related information are published.

As per the earlier reports, the MCC was scheduled to start medical counselling from today i.e Saturday July 06, 2024. The Committee however has so far neither released the counselling schedule nor confirmed the new date and time to start the medical admission counselling.

In the absence of the MCC maintaining silence on NEET UG counselling, respective admission bodies in different states have also not yet confirmed counselling details.

The Maharashtra CET Cell has launched the counselling website for the year 2024-25. But, it is yet to publish all the details on the website.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET was held on May 05, 2024. Close to 24 lakh students from India and abroad appeared for the mandatory medical entrance exams.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) which conducted NEET UG declared the result on June 04, 2024 – ten days before the scheduled date and time. It released the list of NEET UG toppers two days after the result was declared.

Row over NEET UG 2024 Score

As per the NEET UG 2024 result data, a total of 67 students from different parts of India scored a perfect 100% i.e. bagged 720 out of the total 720 marks to jointly share the All India Rank 1 (AIR 1). Overall too most of the students bagged marks more than they had expected.

The NTA on its part said changes in the NCERT textbooks and grace marks for losing time at the examination centres were some of the reasons behind the students scoring higher marks.

But what shocked the students was 6 students from a same centre in Haryana scoring 720 out of the total 720 marks.

The NEET UG 2024 result and toppers list released by the NTA re-ignited the allegations that the medical entrance was rigged and marred by malpractice.

On the very day of the exam, it was alleged that NEET UG 2024 paper was leaked. The NTA however refuted all such claims.

However after the announcement of the NEETUG 2024 result in haste the allegations of paper leak and malpractice re-surfaced.

SC Petition on NEET UG 2024

Even as the Maharashtra government said it was considering to seek legal help on the matter as the NEET UG 2024 scores were “injustice to the students of the state”, a petition was filed by the SIO in the Supreme Court of India.

The petitioner alleged that the grant of grace marks by the National Testing Agency, purportedly due to delay during the exam, was a mala fide exercise to give “backdoor entry” to certain students. The petitioner also sought stay on the medical admission counselling 2024 based on the NEET UG score.

The SC vacation bench comprising Justices Vikran Nath and Ahsanuddin Amanullah admitted the petition for hearing but refused to grant a stay on the NEET UG 2024 medical counselling.

“It is not that simple that because you have done it, it is sacrosanct. Sanctity has been affected, so we need answers”, the SC bench said to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and deferred the matter till July 08, 2024.

The row over NEET UG 2024 score went to the court even as the Ministry of Education formed a committee to probe the allegations of “irregularities” in the medical exams.

The ministry formed the committee after a huge demand by the students, who were also supported by various political parties, seeking cancellation and re-examination of the NEET UG 2024.

The NTA had already cancelled the exams of 1,563 students who were awarded grace marks. The demand of the students to cancel NEET UG 2024 for all is yet to be met.

Meanwhile, the Modi government Friday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing cancellation of the NEET UG 2024.

The apex court has scheduled the further hearing on NEET UG pleas on Monday July 08, 2024.
