Truck driver in Manhattan plows into barbecue crowd at park, leaves four critically wounded

Four people enjoying a July 4 barbecue in a Lower Manhattan park were critically injured when the driver of a pickup truck rammed through a fence and mowed them down, authorities said.

According to police sources, the terrifying incident unfolded at around 9 p.m. Thursday night inside of the Corlears Hook Park near Water Street and Jackson Street.

While details are still emerging, cops say the driver of a pickup truck ran over four people inside the greenspace after it jumped the curb and rammed through the fencing.

All four victims are said to be in grave condition. The driver was taken into custody by police.

“They were barbecuing, everyone was barbecuing— there were kids here,” local Evelyn Carbonell said. “People pulled the driver out. It’s horrible.”

Police are asking the public to remain clear of the area as they investigate. The NYPD are expected to release more information shortly.
