Reading Time: 2 minutesUnifor Local 2002 members and supporters will gather at Calgary International Airport on Friday, July 5 at noon for a rally. They are protesting against Paladin Security for alleged human rights violations, including denying workers access to bathroom breaks and water.
“When a company prevents workers from rest breaks and hydration, it is both a human rights and a health and safety issue,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
“Unifor members at YYC perform important and strenuous work by ensuring the safety and security of passengers in one of Canada’s largest travel hubs and Paladin needs to show them the respect they deserve.”

The rally supports 937 Unifor Local 2002 members working as Paladin airport screening officers, training specialists, and team leaders. At a recent emergency meeting, members highlighted numerous issues at Paladin, including the inability to take scheduled breaks, denied bathroom and water breaks, and threats of discipline for attempting breaks. Access to water and sanitation are recognized as fundamental human rights by the United Nations, essential for health, dignity, and prosperity.
Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers across major economic sectors. The union advocates for workers’ rights, equality, and social justice both domestically and internationally, working towards progressive change for a better future.
