Reading Time: 2 minutesFUJI KYUKO CO., LTD. has introduced exciting new attractions in Hakone and Atami. The launch of the sightseeing boat “Hakone Yusen SORAKAZE” on Lake Ashi and the new leisure resort facility “Jukkoku Pass” near Lake Ashi are set to enhance the tourist experience in these scenic regions. These additions aim to draw more foreign tourists to the historically rich and picturesque area.
Blending Environment and Nature
The “Hakone Yusen SORAKAZE” sightseeing boat, launched in February 2024, offers easy access to key attractions in Hakone while allowing passengers to enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Ashi. Designed by Japanese designer Mr. Yasuyuki Kawanishi, the boat features an outdoor deck covered with natural grass and green decorations, harmonizing with the surrounding environment. This unique design is expected to make “Hakone Yusen SORAKAZE” a new symbol of Hakone tourism.
Passengers can board the boat at Hakone-Sekishoato Port, Moto-Hakone Port, or Hakone-en Port, with options for various stops or a round-trip ticket. The boat provides comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, and on clear days, passengers might catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji. The third floor, KAZE DECK, includes natural grass, swing seats, and a Mount Fuji-shaped deck for photos, creating a park-like space that enhances the travel experience. The onboard shop offers exclusive souvenirs, such as Mount Fuji-shaped sweets, adding to the enjoyment of the sightseeing journey.
Between Hakone and Hot Spring Resort Atami
Located between Hakone and the hot spring resort Atami, Jukkoku Pass sits 770 meters above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the natural scenery. Named for its view of ten ancient provinces of Japan, visitors can see Mount Fuji, the Southern Alps, and Suruga Bay on clear days. The Jukkoku Pass Panoramic Cable Car takes only three minutes to reach the summit, where observation facilities and a café provide a relaxing environment to enjoy the view. The café’s churros, shaped like the character “Pass,” are perfect for photos.
For unique accommodations, “THE GLAMPING Hakone Jukkoku Pass” offers 14 villa-style units with outdoor BBQ areas, some featuring saunas and rooftop terraces for stargazing.
After Hakone, Visit the Famous Hot Spring Resort Atami
After exploring Hakone, visitors can travel to Atami, a renowned hot spring resort. Accessible by a 30-minute bus ride from Hakone or a 40–50-minute Shinkansen ride from Tokyo Station, Atami is famous for its sea fireworks displays. The “Atami Seaside Spa & Resort” features sea-view rooms, buffet-style meals with fresh seafood, large public baths, and open-air hot springs sourced directly from the spring. Private baths are available for those seeking more privacy.
Fun Family Day Trip
A 30-minute high-speed boat ride from Atami Port takes visitors to “Hatsushima,” the closest offshore island to the Tokyo metropolitan area. The resort complex “PICA Hatsushima” offers glamping facilities, Instagrammable lemon-themed photo spots, and unique island-style dishes. The restaurant “ENAK” serves lemon-themed dishes like blue Hatsushima burgers, lemon pancakes, and honey lemon parfaits, adding charm to the visit.
