New Delhi: In a sharpest attack on the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) over demolition of homes without following due judicial process, CPI (M) MP from Kerala in Rajya Sabha John Brittas said the ruling party should change its party symbol ‘Lotus’ to ‘Bulldozer'.
The BJP government in Uttar Pradesh first started demolishing homes belonging to Muslims, Dalits and other suppressed groups on the pretext of one charge or the other without following the due judicial process.
The discriminatory practice then was followed in other states ruled by the BJP including Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
The grossly inhuman practice was condemned at home and abroad, very recently by the United States Department of State.
Taking the criticism of the BJP to the new level, John Brittas said if the party is so proud of this inhuman action then it should replace its party symbol ‘Lotus’ with ‘Bulldozer’.
“The Prime Minister and ministers in his cabinet took oath of upholding the constitution of the country which guarantees equal rights to every citizen. But there is a huge difference between what they say in the house and do on the ground”, he said while participating in the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Address of the President Monday.
“The PM took this oath for the 6th time. Yet he called Muslims infiltrators and those who have more children. Why sir? Why he used such words for Muslims? Didn’t he violate the oath” John Brittas asked in the Rajya Sabha.
“I would request the BJP to change its symbol Lotus to Bulldozer. Now BJP members should use bulldozer as their party symbol.
“Only the other day in Moradabad, we saw demolition of five houses. Bulldozer has become the symbol”, he said.
‘You are changing history’
In his speech in the Rajya Sabha, John Brittas also accused the BJP of changing the history of the country.
"For you Babri Masji is a '3 dome structure'. Tomorrow, you will say Gandhi died due to fever or flu, and Nathuram Godse had taken him to hospital for treatment", he said.
Criticising the recent changes in the NCERT textbooks, the CPI (M) MP from Kerala said
Slamming the BJP’s communal politics, he said Hindu Lord Ram and all Hindu gods have deserted the party.
“You were anyway not with Ram but with Nathu Ram”, he said referring Godse, the murder of Mahatma Gandhi.
Speaking on the controversies surrounding NEET UG, UGC NET, CUET and other entrance exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), Brittas accused the BJP of destroying the federal structure of the country.
“I studied at JNU. The JNU conducted entrance exams successfully and without any leak for 50 years. Now you introduced CUET. Simultaneously, you started talking about‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Mark Jihad’.
“The only reason why you did all this and introduced CUET was to stop South Indian students from taking admissions in Delhi University.”, he said.
He also accused the BJP of taking donations through Electoral Bonds from various companies including from beef companies and coaching centres.
