There is a growing interest in domestic travel, particularly during the mid-year holidays. Additionally, there is a notable business travel surge and an increase in corporate travel. Forward-looking air ticketing data indicates that domestic departures in July 2024 will constitute 60% of all flights from Brazil, an increase from 56% in July 2023. This trend underscores Brazilians’ increasing inclination to explore their own country and shows a rise in both business and leisure travel.
Brazil’s economic growth has significantly influenced the surge in domestic travel. With GDP growth rates forecasted 2.2% for 2024, the stable economy has increased consumer confidence and spending power. This stability has allowed more Brazilians to afford domestic air travel, boosting demand. Both business and leisure travel have seen substantial increases, with corporate travel contributing to the surge. Airlines like LATAM Brasil and Gol Linhas Aéreas are responding by expanding their fleets and services, driving the travel industry’s growth.
LATAM Brasil continues to solidify its position as a dominant player in the South American aviation market. The airline has recently announced an order for five additional Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, enhancing its status as the largest operator of the 787 family in the region. With this new addition, LATAM’s 787 fleet will reach a total of 46 aircraft. This move reflects LATAM’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and providing efficient service.
In 2023, LATAM Airlines carried approximately 33 million passengers within Brazil, making it the airline’s largest market segment. This number represents over 43% of LATAM’s total domestic market passengers, highlighting the airline’s strong presence and customer preference in Brazil.
Gol Linhas Aéreas, another major player in the Brazilian aviation industry, operates a fleet that includes Boeing 737-700, Boeing 737-800, Boeing 737-8 MAX, and Boeing 737-800 BCF aircraft. The airline is also reportedly in discussions with Embraer regarding a potential order for E2 jets, as revealed by the company’s CEO, Francisco Gomes Neto.
São Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, is the primary international gateway serving São Paulo. In 2012, it was the busiest airport in Brazil based on the number of passengers transported, aircraft operations, and cargo handled. In 2023, it ranked as the second busiest airport in Latin America by passenger traffic, with over 41 million passengers, second only to Mexico City International Airport.
Airlines in Brazil, including LATAM Brasil and Gol Linhas Aéreas, are propelling a surge in the travel industry, contributing to an travel boom. These airlines are expanding their fleets and enhancing their services to meet the growing demand for travel.
