WALKING IN NATURE: Summer is the perfect time of year to get into the healthy habit of walking outdoors. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The walks are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The walks usually cover about 1.5 miles of trail. The walks all begin at 10:30 am, but each week will start from a different one of the park’s trailheads. The walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators. Future dates are July 15, and 29 and August 12 and 26. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETING: Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are regularly scheduled for 7 pm on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 474 Broadway in Saratoga Springs. Meetings are held in the Council Room at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 pm and earlier for special schedules. VICTORY WOODS WALK: At Saratoga National Historical Park. 9am, meet at the Saratoga Monument parking lot. Biological Technician Linda White leads a walk from the Saratoga Monument through Victory Woods exploring the trees and timelines of the area.

TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. Join an educator on a moderate to difficult hike to the spring overlook and Spier Falls Overlook. This is an approximately 4-mile loop hike. Bring appropriate clothing and hiking boots, plenty of water and snacks or a lunch if you want. The hike is $5 (cash or check). HERITAGE SOCIETY MEETING: The Wilton Heritage Society will hold its monthly meeting at the Museum, 5 Parkhurst Rd, Wilton, on July 3. The Mohawk-Hudson Dowsers’ speakers will be Lorna Reichel and Peter Voss. Anyone can learn this skill to find which foods are good for you, non-beneficial energies, body auras, and so much more. BUTTERFLY WALK: Wilton Wildlife is offering free walks on Wednesdays, starting on May 29 and continuing through July 31. The walks will take place weekly at 1:30 pm and leave from the parking area at Old Gick Farm on Route 50, which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. The walks last about an hour and cover a mile of gently rolling terrain. The walks will not take place if there is rain. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. BINGO: Knights of Columbus #246 hosts Bingo at the KOC Hall located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, every Wednesday evening. The doors open at 4:30 pm, the kitchen window (which is staffed by the Catholic Daughters) opens at 5:30 pm, games go on sale at 6 pm., and the first game starts at 7 pm. SARATOGA’S ALL-AMERICAN CELEBRATION: Saratoga’s All-American Celebration is back this July 4th in downtown Saratoga Springs. The day will include the annual Firecracker4 Road Race at 9am on Broadway, the Saratoga-Wilton Elks’ 55th annual Flag Day parade at 5pm on Broadway, a family-friendly concert featuring Tops of Trees at 7:30 p.m. on Ellsworth Jones Place in Saratoga Springs and a spectacular fireworks display at approximately 9pm from the top of the Saratoga Springs City Center Garage. Most Americans, including those in the Continental Army, would have first heard the stirring words of the Declaration of Independence in a public reading. Join us as Park Volunteer Joe Craig recreates such a scene!

WIGGLY WANDERERS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. Wiggly Wanderers is a casual and fun program that is offered to walking toddlers, carriable babies and their caregivers. This will be a beginner’s hike/wander series for toddlers who are ready to move and caregivers who are willing and able to baby wear and/or carry their toddler if their legs get too tired. We will not plan too much distance walking and we will rely on teachable moments to carry us through these experiences. Strollers will not work for these programs. While you do not need to attend each week, we will continue to build our toddlers hiking skills as well as their caregivers’ confidence taking the children into the woods to explore. This event does not have sign ups, please come if you can. We meet at the nature center parking lot. $1 per child. For any questions call 518-793-0511.

PICTURE SARATOGA: At Saratoga National Historical Park. 8am on the Visitor Center lawn. Join Park Volunteer and Photographer David Truland along with Park Visual Information Specialist Kristin Vinduska to explore Saratoga National Historical Park through your camera lens. The program will take visitors on a 3-mile hike from the Visitor Center on the Wilkinson Trail out to Stop 6 and 7. Along the way, David and Kristin will talk photography tips and discuss some of their favorite photo spots in the park. People of all skill sets are welcome to join and bring anything from their favorite camera set-up to the camera on their phone. Visitors will be invited to share how they capture the beauty of the park through their own creative vision. In the words of Ansel Adams, “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” If you would like to reserve your spot and be notified in case of the need to reschedule due to weather, contact sara_reservations@nps.gov. SIP AND PAINT FOR KIDS: The Slate Valley Museum will continue to expand its painting on slate workshops this year with a special two-part summer series specially geared toward kids ages 9 and up. The museum will offer its first “Sip & Paint on Slate for Kids” on Friday, July 5 from 4-6pm. “Sip & Paint on Slate for Kids” will include instruction from art teacher Darcie Parrott, as well as kid-friendly drinks and snacks. The first workshop on July 5 will guide young participants through painting an owl. A second workshop on August 23 will feature a moonlit summer evening over the water. No art experience is necessary and beginning painters are welcome. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $25 per person per workshop and include all art materials, one beverage ticket, and a selection of snacks. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Those adults wishing to paint may purchase their own ticket, or they may opt to explore the museum while their kids participate in the workshop. Space is limited. CANINE HEAT SAFETY CLASS: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Drop by the nature center for some tips on how to keep your dog safe in the summer heat from an educator and vet tech.

ART CLASS PART 2: The Village of Ballston Spa, its Committee on the Arts, and artists Ottavia Huang of Ms. Otter Studio and Maria DeAngelo of ArtyLadyMsD, proudly announce “Everyday Sketching: A Watercolor and Ink Class.” This three-session class seeks participants to foster a deeper connection with the world around them, celebrating the art of observation and expression through watercolor and ink. The three sessions will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library, 21 Milton Ave, from noon to 3pm in the Community Room. Part 1 on June 29: Fundamentals of Sketching. Part 2 on July 6: Working with Watercolor and Ink. Part 3 on July 13: Capturing Everyday Scenes. This class is for all skill levels. FAMILY SATURDAY: At the Tang Museum at Skidmore College. Our popular Family Saturdays foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. The programs, which are free and open to the public, run from 2 to 3:30 pm. They are suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Led by Njeri Jennings, the Laurie M. Tisch Educator for K-12 and Community Programs at the Tang Teaching Museum, the programs are inspired by current exhibitions and art from the Tang collection.

CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT: Acclaimed violinist Rubén Rengel and pianist Ahmed Alom will present “Classical Splendor,” an evening of chamber music masterworks on Saturday, July 6 at 7 pm, at The Sembrich (4800 Lake Shore Drive, Bolton Landing). The evening will include sonatas by Brahms and Poulenc, Liszt’s Paraphrase on a theme from Rigoletto and selections from Stravinsky’s Pulcinella. REPTILE PROFILE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Join an educator in the nature center to meet our resident reptiles! We at Moreau take care of six New York native turtles and three snakes that cannot be released into the wild and are wonderful little educators. Learn about their exciting lives, what they like to eat, and what they use for shell-ter at the Nature Center. The cost is $5 for adults, $1 for children (cash or check) at the office upon arrival. SUNDAY STROLL: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of the Sunday Strolls. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tours highlight the Gut neighborhood, mail-order houses on the east side, the diverse history of the historic West Side, mansions of North Broadway, and much more. The Summer Sunday Strolls historically sell out early, so do not wait to buy your tickets! On July 7, former SSPF Executive Director and State Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner will highlight historic Franklin Square, our city’s oldest residential neighborhood. Today, it is a veritable showcase of American architectural history. This summer stroll, “Wealth & Wellness: Franklin Square,” is sponsored by Fridholm Painting. Meet at the northwest corner of Division Street and Railroad Place. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. NATURE MAKER SPACE: On Monday, July 8 at 11:00 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be hosting a Nature Makerspace program under the pavilion at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road. The lesson and project are geared for participants of all ages. Each date will feature a different and creative nature-themed arts project. The theme for the July program is native wildflowers! There is a small craft supply fee of $5 per participant. Free parking is available in Parking Lot #1 located on Scout Road directly across the road from the pavilion. CRAFTS ON THE GRASS: At the Tang Museum at Skidmore College. Before each Upbeat on the Roof concert, Tang museum educators will offer Crafts on the Grass, art-making kits for kids starting at 5:30 pm. A different kit with a craft project will be available each week. All projects are suitable for children aged 5 and up, with adult supervision. NATURE WALK: Join Wilton Wildlife educators and Sara Hutchinson of Slo Breathworks on July 11 at 10:00 am, to gain a new perspective on your walks, by heightening your senses through conscious breathing and intentional strides. Participants will walk and stop to breathe with blue lupine and other plants then elongate our breaths to restore and unwind by Delegan Pond and set an intention for this season. CELEBRATE SARATOGA: Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association invites you to Celebrate Saratoga! TEEN/TWEEN ADVISORY GROUP: Ballston Spa Public Library is pleased to announce the formation of a Tween/ Teen Advisory Group (TAG). This new group is intended for students entering 6th grade through 10th grade. The group will meet on July 11th and 25th from 6pm-7pm and August 15th from 6pm-9pm. TAG gives middle and high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, brainstorm and help execute imaginative programs and recommend purchases for the library. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for tweens and teens to have recreational opportunities as well as social and emotional support. MUSEUM EXHIBITION: America’s Gilded Age will come to life in “A Night at the Museum,” a one-night-only exhibition at The Sembrich in Bolton Landing on July 11 at 7pm. This exclusive evening will offer a glimpse into the Gilded Age life of Lake George’s illustrious operatic celebrity Marcella Sembrich by showcasing a selection of her cherished and rarely displayed possessions – from death masks to diamonds! The program was written and conceived as a celebration for the 100th anniversary of The Sembrich studio, which was constructed in 1924.
During the program, members of The Sembrich’s board and staff will share Sembrich anecdotes as they feature her treasures – many of which have never been displayed – including a gold bracelet from the Czar of Russia and a unique silver tribute from the celebrated tenor Enrico Caruso. The evening will also feature the unveiling of Sembrich’s famous and newly restored Queen of the Night costume worn for the premier performance of Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera in 1900. HOOKED ON NATURE: A fiber arts meetup at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Grab your yarn, needles, and lawn chairs and get outdoors into the fresh air with other fiber arts hobbyists! Share your love of nature with other crafters while working in a lovely natural setting. This twice-a-month meet-up will be taking place at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road in Wilton. SUNDAY STROLL: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of the Sunday Strolls. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. HISTORICAL DEMONSTRATION: Saratoga National Historical Park presents “Uniforming the Continental Army” at 10am on the Visitor Center lawn. The American Northern Army encamped at Saratoga Battlefield in 1777 included thousands of Continental soldiers from New England, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. These soldiers wore a variety of colorful uniforms made of wool or linen, all of which needed to be hand tailored. Their leather shoes were made by hand using a careful, painstaking process. Come to the park to see an 18th-century tailor and cordwainer (not a cobbler!) make these uniform parts using authentic period techniques.

WALKING IN NATURE: Summer is the perfect time of year to get into the healthy habit of walking outdoors. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The walks are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The walks usually cover about 1.5 miles of trail. The walks all begin at 10:30 am, but each week will start from a different one of the park’s trailheads. The walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators. WALKING TOUR: The Saratoga County History Center has announced its popular county-wide walking tour program for the 2024 season. FRANCES DAY: At Skidmore College, 2-6:30pm. The Tang Teaching Museum’s annual community open house features contemporary art exhibitions, art-making activities, tours, food, music, and more in honor of the museum’s namesake, Frances Young Tang, Skidmore College Class of 1961. This year’s Frances Day features “Mark Dion and Alexis Rockman: Journey to Nature’s Underworld,” a new exhibition that fills the museum’s largest gallery spaces with large-scale painted and sculptural works addressing humankind’s strained relationship with the environment and its vast ecological consequences. In addition to guided tours of the exhibition, visitors can learn about sustainability, take a tour of the trees on the museum’s grounds, and engage in multiple art-making projects inspired by the exhibition, including Recycled Earth form Crayons, Illuminated Landscapes, Bug Boxes, and Recycled Map Flowers. At 5 pm, acclaimed Capital Region musician and performer Taína Asili and her ensemble take the stage for an energetic concert. HOOKED ON NATURE: A fiber arts meetup at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Grab your yarn, needles, and lawn chairs and get outdoors into the fresh air with other fiber arts hobbyists! Share your love of nature with other crafters while working in a lovely natural setting. This twice-a-month meet-up will be taking place at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road in Wilton. This is a casual get-together for people to share their works-in-progress, in any fiber based medium. Materials will not be provided, but advice and guidance will be, by the other group attendees. The group will be meeting from 3:00 – 4:30 pm on the second and fourth Friday of the month. Next month, Hooked on Nature will be on August 9 and 23. KAYAKING: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9am. Bring your binoculars and join an educator on a peaceful morning paddle around Moreau Lake and look for birds! Limited rentals are available or bring your own kayak. This program is for people aged 18 and older if you need to rent a kayak or 13+ if you have your own kayak. The cost is $5 (or $15 including kayak rental).

HISTORICAL REENACTOR: Saratoga National Historical Park is hosting two performances by Nathan Richardson as Frederick Douglass. “Frederick Douglass Returns to Schuylerville” will be held at 10am and 1pm at the Schuyler House. “Frederick Douglass Speaks on Democracy” will be held at 3pm at Town of Saratoga Town Hall.

These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tours highlight the Gut neighborhood, mail-order houses on the east side, the diverse history of the historic West Side, mansions of North Broadway, and much more. The Summer Sunday Strolls historically sell out early, so do not wait to buy your tickets! On July 28, Deborah Studwell will lead a tour of “Historic Madison and Fifth Avenues,” showcasing these grand residential streets which are lined with elegant Victorian and Craftsman houses near the Saratoga Race Course. WALKING IN NATURE: Summer is the perfect time of year to get into the healthy habit of walking outdoors. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The walks are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The walks usually cover about 1.5 miles of trail. The walks all begin at 10:30 am, but each week will start from a different one of the park’s trailheads. The walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators. Future dates are August 12 and 26. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. KIDS’ TRAIL HIKE: At Moreau Lake State Park, 9:30am. This hike will be slow and steady to let the kids explore and enjoy an off-trail hike at their own pace. We will walk roughly a mile and see the Hudson from another view point and perhaps throw some sticks in! This hike is NOT stroller friendly so if you have a younger sibling who wants to join, plan to carry them if they get
tired. Bring water, and snacks are more than welcome. This hike is $1 per kid. Please register in advance by calling 518-793-0511.

TRAIL WORK WEDNESDAY: At Moreau Lake State Park, 10am. Calling all trail steward volunteers or lovers of trails to help do some light trail work on one of our trails for a couple of hours or as long as you would like. You will be led and taught skills by one of our staff where we will be using loppers, hand saws and clearing any trash we come across. Please bring water, wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, closed toed shoes/hiking shoes, eye protection, and work gloves if you have them. WALKING TOUR: The Saratoga County History Center has announced its popular county-wide walking tour program for the 2024 season. This year’s tours will all be held on Wednesdays in July and September in locations throughout Saratoga County. Registration is available at the History Center’s website https://brooksidemuseum.org/. Suggested donations for the tours are $10. Specific directions will be available upon registration. July 31 at 10am: LakeHill Road Burnt Hills with Rick Reynolds. Ballston Town Historian Rick Reynolds will be returning to take tour attendees on a 2-mile stroll and hear tales of the farms, stores, schools and a wallpaper factory along Lakehill Road. Rick will look back into history, but also peer into the future of Burnt Hills. A bus will bring walkers back to their cars at Stevens School after the tour.

NATURE MAKER SPACE: On Monday, August 5 at 11:00 am, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be hosting a Nature Makerspace program under the pavilion at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road. TEEN/TWEEN ADVISORY GROUP: Ballston Spa Public Library is pleased to announce the formation of a Tween/ Teen Advisory Group (TAG). This new group is intended for students entering 6th grade through 10th grade. The group will meet on August 15th from 6pm-9pm. TAG gives middle and high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, brainstorm and help execute imaginative programs and recommend purchases for the library. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for tweens and teens to have recreational opportunities as well as social and emotional support. Students should expect a meeting, snacks and activity. In addition, participants will receive community service for each session they attend.Registration is required for this group, limit 20. RESILIENT GARDENING: Hudson Crossing Park is excited to announce its Resilient Gardening Series, a hands-on monthly workshop series dedicated to promoting sustainable gardening practices. This program is free to the public, made possible by the generous support of the New York State Canal Corporation’s On the Canals Program. Held once a month, these workshops are designed to meet the gardening needs of each season. FULL MOON OWL PROWL: Experience the magic of Hudson Crossing Park after dark with our Full Moon Owl Prowls, held on the full moon of every month from June through October. GREENFIELD FARMERS MARKET: The Town of Greenfield Recreation Department has revamped its Greenfield Farmers Market, which will be held Thursday evenings, 4-7 pm at Middle Grove Park, 428 Middle Grove Rd. It will feature more than 20 vendors, rotating food trucks, and weekly entertainment throughout its season from June 20-September 19.

HOOKED ON NATURE: A fiber arts meetup at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Grab your yarn, needles, and lawn chairs and get outdoors into the fresh air with other fiber arts hobbyists! Share your love of nature with other crafters while working in a lovely natural setting. This twice-a-month meet-up will be taking place at Camp Saratoga on Scout Road in Wilton. This is a casual get-together for people to share their works-in-progress, in any fiber based medium. Materials will not be provided, but advice and guidance will be, by the other group attendees. The group will be meeting from 3:00 – 4:30 pm on the second and fourth Friday of the month. Registration is highly recommended at least one day in advance. SIP AND PAINT FOR KIDS: The Slate Valley Museum will continue to expand its painting on slate workshops this year with a special two-part summer series specially geared toward kids ages 9 and up. The museum will offer its second workshop on August 23 featuring a moonlit summer evening over the water. No art experience is necessary and beginning painters are welcome. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $25 per person per workshop and include all art materials, one beverage ticket, and a selection of snacks. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Those adults wishing to paint may purchase their own ticket, or they may opt to explore the museum while their kids participate in the workshop. Space is limited. HISTORICAL PRESENTATION: Volunteers at Parks-Bentley Place will present “Escape to Freedom.” This program gives attendees a chance to hear, see and feel the escape experiences of escaping slaves. This is an outdoor hand-on, walking experience starting at our “plantation” and includes a visit to the slave hold. This program is designed for kids of all ages.

SUNDAY STROLL: The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of the Sunday Strolls. These historic walking tours will be offered every Sunday at 10:30am through August 25th in various neighborhoods throughout the city. Tours highlight the Gut neighborhood, mail-order houses on the east side, the diverse history of the historic West Side, mansions of North Broadway, and much more. The Summer Sunday Strolls historically sell out early, so do not wait to buy your tickets! On August 25, join Georgia Horner for “Post Time!” to explore the area surrounding the Saratoga Race Course, as she highlights the history of the Reading Rooms, National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame, Oklahoma Training Track, and the Fasig-Tipton Humphrey S. Finney Sales Pavilion. Meet at the southeast corner of Nelson and Union Avenues. All Sunday morning tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours are limited to 30 and tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. Foundation members with stroll passes need to contact the Foundation’s office to book their Sunday Summer Stroll prior to the date of the stroll they chose. WALKING IN NATURE: Summer is the perfect time of year to get into the healthy habit of walking outdoors. Twice a month on a Monday, people can connect with like-minded people and observe the beauty of nature at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. The walks are geared towards gentle exercise and are appropriate for adults at basic fitness levels. The walks usually cover about 1.5 miles of trail. The walks all begin at 10:30 am, but each week will start from a different one of the park’s trailheads. The walks are led by one of Wilton Wildlife’s Environmental Educators. Registration is required at least one business day in advance. BALLSTON AREA SENIORS: The Ballston Area Seniors will be meeting at the Town of Milton Community Center, 310 Northline Rd. Ballston Spa every Thursday at 10 am to play cards, use the craft room, play pool, or just socialize. Lunch is at 12:00 noon. Bingo after lunch if 10 players or more. At lunch the BASC Members may participate in Congregate Meals for $2 OR bring your own lunch, your choice. Pizza every 3rd Thursday at 12:00 noon.
