July must be Wes Anderson month on Hulu, because five of the director’s films are leaving the streamer at the end of the month. Anderson’s quirky comedy/dramas may be an acquired taste, but we’ll miss The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Rushmore when they depart on July 31. Some of Hulu’s other departing films, like Personal Shopper and The Nightingale, are leaving on July 2, so you’ll have to catch those quickly if you want to watch them.
But as with most months of the year, the vast majority of movies leaving Hulu in July are exiting on the last day of the month. That should give you more than enough time to watch Cast Away, Those Who Wish Me Dead, and even White House Down. 7.8/10Tom Hanks has collaborated with director Robert Zemeckis multiple times, and again later this year with the upcoming film Here. But their greatest collaboration was Cast Away, a film that featured Hanks himself as the greatest special effect… because he spent months between shooting the two halves of the movie working to convincingly transform his body to a state where he looked like he was barely eating enough to survive.
Hanks plays Chuck Noland, a FedEX employee who is stranded on a deserted island, where he struggles with even the most basic tasks. More than anything else in the world, Chuck wants to escape the island and reunite with his girlfriend, Kelly Frears (Helen Hunt). Since Hanks spends most of this movie without anyone to play off of, the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor should have gone to Chuck’s volleyball, Wilson. The way Chuck treats Wilson actually makes you care for an inanimate object. That’s down to the power of Hanks’ performance, which absolutely makes the movie.
