Complete with a boat parade, live music, a fly rod casting competition and more, Basalt is preparing for a daylong festival this coming weekend.

Slated for noon Saturday, July 6 at Basalt River Park, the town is inviting folks to River Jams, according to a news release. The event ends at 10 p.m.

“River Jams is a great way to celebrate 4th of July week with a true community event,” Basalt Planning Director Michelle Thibeault said in the release. “This is a family friendly celebration that features music, food, beverages, and fly fishing and boating competitions.”

The boat parade at noon kicks off the event with prizes for best costume, theme, and most Basalty. Life jackets are required, and competitors are asked to put-in at the Whitewater Park or Confluence Park. Boaters can sign up via a link on the event page.

Music begins at 1:30 p.m. Bands include Blankslate (indie), Wooden Rock (Marble’s classic rock band), Wildermiss (indie rock), Cruz Contreras & The Black Lillies (Americana jam band), and headliner The Velveteers (garage rock).

The fly rod casting competition takes place at 2:30 p.m., and is sponsored by Frying Pan Anglers. There will be prizes for top finishers in adult, youth, and professional guide categories. Equipment is provided and there is a $10 entry fee. More details and link to enter is at the event page.

Food vendors include Mama’s Pierogi’s, Slow Groovin’ BBQ, Dustino’s Pizza, and Aspen Mini Donuts. Beverages provided by Mountain Heart Brewery.

People are encouraged to ride Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) buses, Basalt Connect, walk, and bicycle to the concerts. Drivers to downtown Basalt shows should park at the Basalt elementary and middle school parking lots. More information about the concert and links to sign up for the boat parade and fly-fishing competition can be found at http://www.basalt.net/riverjams.
