Fiji‘s commitment to sustainable development in tourism took a significant step forward with the launch of the Fiji National Sustainable Tourism Framework.

This comprehensive strategy goes beyond a mere document, representing a unified vision for the future of tourism in Fiji, benefiting local communities, government partners, and the private sector.

The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) lauded the collaborative efforts of the Fiji Government, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, and industry stakeholders.

SPTO CEO, Mr. Cocker, highlighted the Framework’s development as a cross-sectoral effort at both regional and international levels, aiming to exceed the expectations of sustainable tourism.

Mr. Cocker emphasized the Framework’s importance in promoting respectful engagement with Fijian values and customs, ensuring that visitors recognize the privilege of experiencing Fiji’s unique cultural and natural heritage.

The initiative also aligns with the NZ-funded SPTO Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework and its four pivotal goals, setting a regional benchmark for sustainable tourism.

The Framework marks the first alignment with the regional goals of SPTO and the 2050 Blue Pacific Strategy.

It provides a platform for all tourism stakeholders in Fiji to contribute to the sustainable growth of the industry, ensuring benefits for the environment and the Fijian people.

SPTO expressed gratitude for Fiji’s leadership and support in hosting regional tourism events, such as the upcoming South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE) 2024 and 2025 in Nadi.

These efforts are crucial for advancing sustainable tourism across the Blue Pacific, showcasing Fiji’s dedication to fostering regional collaboration and sustainable development in the tourism sector.
