For 2024, the XT6 gets a small price hike across the lineup, two new extra-cost exterior color options, and new accent packages on the Sport trim.
The XT6 wears Cadillac’s latest styling, though it’s not as complex here as on its contemporaries, with a sporty nose that flows into a traditional two-box shape that culminates with a dull tail end. The cabin is as roomy as it is dull.
The entry-level turbo-4 produces 235 hp, which this 4,400-pound SUV may push to its limits. The 3.6-liter V-6 in Premium Luxury and Sport models is a better choice, with a 9-speed automatic transmission, strong acceleration, and a refined feel. The optional all-wheel-drive system is less appealing thanks to its front-wheel-drive mode, which ostensibly saves fuel but requires deactivation by the tap of a button in snow or other slippery conditions.
With the turbo-4, the XT6 rates up to 23 mpg combined, while V-6 models with all-wheel drive drop to just 21 mpg.
The XT6 stretches nearly 199 inches long, which makes a big SUV with a spacious cabin in the first two rows. The third row is snug, but it’ll work for children. Cargo capacity behind row three is below average, but the huge cabin provides plenty of passenger and luggage space behind the first two rows.
Strong crash-test results are bolstered with plenty of advanced safety tech. Cadillac’s available Super Cruise system is the real charmer, which is expensive but enables limited hands-free driving on many highways. For a road warrior, it’s worth the cost.

The XT6 has a traditional two-box shape it wears well enough, and the high roofline provides good interior space. From the rear, sedan-like taillights and big reflectors feel almost like afterthoughts, particularly in Cadillac showrooms alongside the more attractive XT4.
Unfortunately, it’s no better in the cabin. The XT6’s layout is reasonably convenient, with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and physical controls, but the look falls short of luxury. Rivals like BMW and Mercedes layer on thoughtful touches, while the XT6 seems like a dolled-up mainstream model.

All-wheel drive is optional. Just remember you’ll need to tap the all-wheel-drive button to activate it, since the Cadillac XT6 is one of few AWD vehicles with a two-wheel-drive mode.
How fast is the Cadillac XT6?
The base XT6 gets a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with just 235 hp, which isn’t enough to authoritatively move 4,400 or so pounds. The 3.6-liter V-6 with 310 hp and a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission is the better choice.
The ride is even better yet, with good control and smooth feel even if one of the larger wheel designs is selected. The optional adaptive dampers don’t seem to make much difference, however.
The XT6, even in Sport trim, is far from sporty, thanks to its soft suspension and considerable heft. If driving enjoyment is a priority, rivals like the BMW X5 may be a better fit.

Comfortable and spacious in the first two rows, the 2024 Cadillac XT6 provides a pleasant interior.
Some competitors go farther in terms of luxurious design, but there’s no argument over space and comfort with the 2024 Cadillac XT6. We award points for comfort in the front and middle rows, seating for at least five adults, and cargo volume. It’s a 9.
The XT6’s standard configuration has seating for seven, but we prefer the six-seat version since the cabin is narrower than larger SUVs. Front riders get the best seats, but row two is a close second with a reasonable 39.1 inches of legroom. The rearmost row is tolerable for adults in stints, though it’s somewhat less luxurious and legroom gets cut to less than 30 inches.
The XT6 measures less than 13 cubic feet for cargo behind the third row, but the second row folds to open up 43.1 cubes and total capacity tops out at almost 80 cubic feet.
Build quality is high, but the XT6 is finished in middling materials even if you splurge on the upgraded leather. Even some mainstream models have nicer cabins than this Cadillac.

You’ll have to jump through some hoops to add Super Cruise, because what appears to be a $2,500 package ends up costing about $8,000 by the time all the requisite upgrades are added. Still, Super Cruise drives itself provided the driver keeps eyes on the road, which is a great way to reduce driver fatigue along an increasingly large network of mapped highways across the U.S.
