
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The thirty-first annual The Shoppes at Newton Plaza Siro’s Cup to benefit the Center for Disability Services Foundation, Inc. will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The fundraising event, known as the unofficial kick-off of the Saratoga racing season, begins at 6:30 p.m. at Siro’s Restaurant, 168 Lincoln Avenue, Saratoga Springs.
At 7:30 p.m. there will be a presentation to the evening’s honoree, Hall of Fame Trainer William I. Mott, who will receive the 2024 Siro’s Cup Award. Mott, a four-time Eclipse Award winner, trained Cigar through 16 consecutive victories, including the Dubai World Cup 1996. Cigar won 15 stakes and was voted Horse of the Year in 1995 and 1996.
Mott has trained several other champions, including Hall of Fame member Royal Delta, winner of three Eclipse Awards, Ajina, Channel Maker, Cody’s Wish, Elite Power, Escena, Paradise Creek, and Theatrical. In 2010, Mott won his first Triple Crown race when Drosselmeyer won the Belmont Stakes.
In 2019, Mott won the Kentucky Derby with Country House. Mott has won 15 Breeder’s Cup races, including five editions of the Distaff, and the Classic twice. Mott has won 10 training titles at Belmont and nine at Saratoga, Churchill Downs, and Gulfstream. Through 2023, Mott has won 5,377 races (No. 8 all-time).
The Center will also honor Senator Howard C. Nolan Jr. (posthumously) for his decades of dedication to the mission of the Center for Disability Services and his contributions to horse racing.
The event welcomes notables from the world of horse racing. Guests will dance to the music of Ten Most Wanted until 11 p.m. under an open-air tent. The evening includes an open bar, light fare created especially for Siro’s Cup by Chef Noah Frese, an online silent auction, a photo booth, and more. Siro’s Cup will be held rain or shine.
