ORLANDO, Fla. — Newly elected Orlando City Commissioner Shan Rose will be sworn in on Monday as the city's new District 5 commissioner.

Rose recently secured enough votes to win the seat in a special runoff election.

Rose, a former City Hall employee, won the runoff election held last week, receiving more than 1,000 votes. She was running against former state Rep. Travaris McCurdy, who garnered 856 votes. The special election was held following the suspension of former Commissioner Regina Hill.

Speaking with Spectrum News 13 the day after her win, Rose expressed her enthusiasm for the work ahead.

"We have a lot of work to make sure that economic thrives here, we have a lot to make sure that we address affordable housing, safety, homeless and we’re going to work together to make this the best District 5 in the city of Orlando possible and I look forward to it," said Rose. 

Rose also mentioned plans to sit down with staff to host town hall meetings and hopes to organize a community prayer breakfast in the near future.

Rose will be sworn in during Orlando’s City Hall meeting at 10 a.m., Monday.
