Poulios: Don’t change Aspen’s character

My family members have been frequent visitors to Aspen, summer and winter, for many years. Driving into town, crossing the bridge and gliding around the S curves, a wonderful snug, mountain valley
town opens up. Aspen is special because it has the feel of a small, European ski village coupled
with an authentic Western U.S. history. It is unique and so is its entrance.

I understand the town council is exploring replacing the existing entrance to Aspen with a four-lane straight expressway crossing open space that would dump traffic directly onto Main Street.
For whatever reason, perhaps saving a few seconds commuting, I cannot imagine, but please
abandon that notion. You would destroy the initial marvelous impression people get coming into
town and a large part of the town’s character. Do you really want to turn this jewel into a mere
waypoint on Google Maps?
