Reading Time: 2 minutesMalaysia greeted 10,000 participants from Perfect China Group as part of their 30th Anniversary Conference, set to occur at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on June 20, 2024. The attendees, hailing from various Chinese regions including Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau, are set to explore Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Melaka. Tourism is a critical component of Malaysia’s economic strategy, particularly with the ongoing visa exemption for Chinese visitors, which is crucial for rejuvenating the sector. With the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026, this visa policy is expected to boost Chinese tourist visits significantly, reinforcing Malaysia’s status as a prime travel destination. This is in line with the country’s goal to attract 35.6 million visitors and generate RM147.1 billion (approximately US$31.2 billion) in tourism revenue by 2026.
Malaysia’s tourism agencies, including the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Tourism Malaysia, and the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), are actively supporting this large-scale visit. This initiative not only aims to enhance Malaysia-China relations but also to showcase Malaysia’s unique appeal in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
For the year 2024, Malaysia aims to welcome 27.3 million international tourists, targeting tourism receipts of RM102.7 billion, with Chinese tourists expected to constitute 5 million of these arrivals. This follows a strong performance in 2023, when Malaysia recorded 1,474,114 tourist arrivals from China, contributing RM8.827.75 billion to the tourism sector.
