Aspen, Basalt celebrate bike to work day with raffles, events

The City of Aspen and Town of Basalt are celebrating bike to work day on Wednesday, June 26, to encourage commuters to pedal their way to work for a healthier lifestyle and a cleaner environment.
From 7:30-9:30 a.m., commuters can visit one of three ride stations along the bikeway for treats, gifts, bike safety check vouchers from Basalt Bike & Ski, and chances to win gift cards and other prizes. The stations will be located at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, Bugsy Barnard Park off of Cemetery Lane, and at Hopkins and Garmisch by Paepcke Park.
Aspen Valley Hospital will provide free helmets while supplies last.
Basalt will host events from 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in Willits and downtown Basalt. From 7:30-9:30 a.m., cyclists can get free coffee and food at Basalt River Park and Triangle Park in Willits along with free giveaways and raffle prizes.
From 4-5 p.m., people are invited to Basalt Regional Library to decorate their bikes for the 5 p.m. Basalt Bike Parade through town. The parade will finish at 5:30 p.m. for the start of the Wednesday free concert series with Feeding Giants and Annabelle’s Curse.
Prizes will be awarded for bike decorating including most creative, most outrageous, and most town spirit.
Plane crashes into mobile home park in Steamboat Springs; pilot and passenger confirmed dead
A twin-engine Cessna 421 airplane crashed in Steamboat Springs at 4:23 p.m. Monday, setting fire to at least two homes and several structures in the West Acres Mobile Home Park.
