China’s recent addition of Australia to its visa-free list on June 17 has ignited significant interest in travel to the East Asian nation. Trip.com data reveals an immediate 80% spike in China-related searches among Australian users within just 30 minutes of the announcement, underscoring strong interest in this new travel opportunity.
Bookings through Trip.com also saw a notable increase on the day of the announcement, with a 20% rise in bookings from Australia to China compared to the previous day.
Flight search volumes from Australia to China have been on a steady rise, marking a 154% increase from January to May this year compared to the same period last year.
Rising Interest in Australian Travel Across APAC
Conversely, Trip.com has observed a more than 150% surge in bookings to Australia from key markets in the Asia-Pacific region during Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023, driven prominently by travelers from China, Korea, and Japan.
Strategic Partnership to Boost Australian Tourism
To further promote Australian tourism, Trip.com has entered into a strategic partnership with Tourism Western Australia. This collaboration aims to showcase Western Australia’s distinctive attractions to key Asian markets, including China.
China’s Visa-Free Policy Drives Global Interest
China’s expanded visa-free policy has sparked global interest, with a 400% increase in inbound travel to China observed in Q1 2024 following the addition of 14 countries and regions to the visa-free arrangement since November 2023.
Promotional Campaigns and Initiatives
In a bid to encourage Australian travelers to explore China, Trip.com launched the “One Flight Away to China” campaign. This initiative offers special promotions on flights, hotels, and attractions, including discounts of up to $200 on flights and $50 on hotel stays.
The Trip.com app features a comprehensive ‘China Travel Guide’ to facilitate smoother travel experiences, covering essential details on entry requirements, internet access, payments, transportation, and more. Additionally, Trip.com has introduced initiatives like the SUPER CHINA Campaign, offering curated package tours and a free Shanghai Express Transit Tour.
