Wendy Robinson: Trump is the danger

I read the June 17 letter from Noel Gomez with disbelief. I respect Mr Gomez’s age, I’m 80 myself, and I understand the difficulty of sorting out fact from fiction in today’s fractured news (and “news”) environment. But please! The idea that Biden wears an earpiece that “tells him what to say” is an old and debunked story, and “Biden would have destroyed us during covid,” What? These kinds of unfounded and vague statements aren’t rational or helpful.

What seems to me really worrisome and dangerous are the things Trump himself says he will do if he’s elected again ... fire civil servants and replace them with his followers, pardon the Jan 6 rioters, put millions of immigrants in camps like the ones that were used to imprison Japanese citizens during World War II, allow states to “monitor” women’s pregnancies, consider making contraception illegal, fire U.S. attorneys who don’t prosecute people he targets, withhold funds from states at his personal discretion — Massachusetts no doubt foremost among them — and cut Social Security and Medicare.

I could go on, those are just the ones that come easily to mind. And meanwhile five minutes of Googling will come up with a list of Biden’s actual accomplishments as he continues calmly and steadily to govern. Sentiments like the letter writer’s worry me greatly, but I’m hopeful is in the minority. Please everyone, try to look in a careful and thoughtful way at the two possible futures we are facing.
