On June 17 the Wautoma Common Council approved the Public Safety’s recommendation to close a portion of Division Street from S. Fair St. to Sandcrest from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, June 24 and 25. Detour signs will be posted for the utility work that is being completed.
The council approved a $1,000 sponsor donation for Wautoma Area Chamber of Commerce’s Freedom Fest fireworks show to be held on July 6 at Waushara County Fairgrounds. They also voted to purchase the Hasselquist property north of 44 W. Main Street by the Mill Pond for $2,000. The property will become a city park named “Fishermen’s Park”. A park bench will be located on the property in honor of the Hasselquist’s.
A contract from Northeast Asphalt for $61,495 was approved to pave DeLaura Way leading to Wautoma Rod & Gun Club. Rebecca Schumacher was named to the Wautoma Public Library Board of Trustees. Action regarding cleanup at 473 S. Oxford Street was approved to proceed. Administrator Tommy Bohler said there have been many problems including shoveling and mowing and the owner is out of Texas.
Mayor John Nixon reported the electricity has been installed off Ste. Marie Street for food trucks and vendors at the Open Air Market held the first and third Saturdays of the month. Mayor Nixon is concerned about garages built in the city without building permits. Administrator Tommy Bohler will check into the violations.
Lt. Joey Rosin gave the Police Dept. report including the events the police dept. attended including DARE graduation, Community Safety Day, Sober Party, Wautoma HS Graduation, Parkside Graduation and Tree House Golf Outing. Lt. Rosin stated that in May the department issued 45 citations (compared to 14 in May of 2023), had 8 arrests, and responded to three domestic issues.
To comply with the ordinance passed last month, the title for Eric Vezina was changed from “Code Officer” to “Fire Inspector” to align with the ordinance language.
The next meeting of the Wautoma Common Council will be held at 6 p.m. on July 8 at Wautoma City Hall.
