JetBlue elevates its Blue Basic fare by including a free carry-on bag starting September 6, 2024, offering budget travelers enhanced value and convenience.

JetBlue has announced an enhancement to its Blue Basic fare, now allowing passengers to bring a carry-on bag for free starting September 6, 2024, regardless of when they purchased their ticket. Previously, travelers needed to select a higher fare option or purchase an Even More Space seat to bring a carry-on bag.

This update positions JetBlue’s Blue Basic fare as one of the best value options for budget-conscious travelers in the industry. In addition to the new carry-on bag policy, all JetBlue fares, including Blue Basic, offer the airline’s renowned customer-focused experience. This includes the most legroom in coach1, seatback entertainment at every seat, and fast, free, unlimited Fly-Fi2 on all flights.

“Carry-on bags are an important part of travel to customers, and when presented with a choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another carrier’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner,” said Marty St. George, president, JetBlue. “We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences. This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry.”

Although many of JetBlue’s aircraft are equipped with larger overhead bins to accommodate more carry-on bags, customers may be asked to check their carry-ons at the gate for no additional charge if space becomes limited. All carry-on bags must still meet size and weight requirements, and fees will apply for any oversized or overweight luggage. JetBlue’s diverse fare options allow customers to prioritize what matters most to them, whether it’s securing the lowest fare, selecting seats in advance, enjoying priority boarding, or earning points. Regardless of their choice, all passengers can expect the best travel experience JetBlue offers.

“As flying becomes cheaper and more accessible for a spectrum of customers, a one-size-fits-all offering no longer works,” said St. George. “Whether a customer prefers more included benefits, or they shop solely on price, our fare options coupled with our great onboard service, makes JetBlue the best choice. No matter what fare a customer prefers, we provide clear and transparent information on what that selection includes.”

Customers looking to board earlier and secure overhead bin space will now find greater value in choosing JetBlue’s more flexible Blue fare. This fare, which is JetBlue’s second lowest, includes free advanced seat selection, no cancellation or change fees, and general boarding. In contrast, Blue Basic customers are the last group to board and are subject to a cancellation fee, which does not apply to other fare types.
