HALFMOON, N.Y. — As the Northeastern U.S. braces for a week of potentially record-setting high temperatures, the town announced the opening of a cooling station at Halfmoon Town Hall to provide residents with a much-needed respite from the heat.
The cooling station will be open from Tuesday, June 18, to Friday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Halfmoon Town Hall and will offer water and light snacks to help the community stay cool and hydrated.
“The safety and comfort of our residents are our top priorities during this expected extreme heat event,” stated Halfmoon Town Supervisor Kevin Tollisen. “We recognize the importance of having a safe place to cool down, and we’re committed to providing that space. Our Town Hall doors are open to residents in need, and we stand ready to support our community through these hot days ahead.”
The Town of Halfmoon urges all residents, especially those at higher risk, such as the elderly and young children, to take advantage of the cooling station. The Town’s proactive approach underscores its dedication to citizen welfare and its readiness to respond to emergency situations.
The Northeastern U.S. is bracing for an extraordinary heat wave this week, with forecasters predicting temperatures that could potentially shatter records and pose significant health risks. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the northeast, with heat index values reaching 100 degrees.
For the next three days, from noon Tuesday to Thursday at around 8 p.m., New York State will be under a heat advisory, and the National Weather Service is urging people to take caution and be prepared. With such extreme conditions on the horizon, the importance of community preparedness and resources like cooling stations becomes ever more critical.
