Vivid Sydney 2024 Comes to a Spectacular Close

Tonight marks the grand finale of Vivid Sydney 2024, following 23 remarkable days and nights of light, music, food, and ideas. The festival, which has brilliantly transformed Sydney’s harbor, iconic landmarks, and cityscape, will dim its lights at 11 PM.

Vivid Sydney 2024, recognized as the Southern Hemisphere’s premier multi-artform festival, showcased a blend of the world’s most innovative artists, culinary talents, contemporary musicians, and thought leaders under the theme of ‘Humanity.’

Highlights and Reflections

Steve Cox, CEO of Destination NSW, expressed his admiration for the festival: “Witnessing Sydney come alive through the participation of both locals and visitors from around the globe has been incredible. The festival has exceeded expectations, energizing the city and celebrating Sydney’s creative, entertainment, and hospitality industries.”

Festival Director Gill Minervini highlighted several standout moments, including performances by Dog Trumpet and the Nest installation by Leila Jeffreys and Melvin J. Montalban. She extended gratitude to all visitors, volunteers, and contributors who made the festival possible.

Julian Ramundi, Vivid Music curator, emphasized the vibrant energy of the festival, particularly at the Machine Hall, where international acts like Underscores and Deerhoof performed. Rachel Healy, curator for Vivid Ideas and Special Events, noted the unique and transformative experiences offered this year, from interactive installations to educational tours.

Festival Highlights

Vivid Light:

• Featured 30 light installations and 3D projections, including Julia Gutman’s “Lighting of the Sails: Echo” on the Sydney Opera House.
• Reg Mombassa’s “Gumscape with Road and Creatures” at Customs House.
• Angus Muir’s immersive “Connection” installation.

Vivid Music:

• Tekno Train by Paul Mac transformed a Sydney Trains ride into an interactive experience.
• Performances at Tumbalong Park and Carriageworks, featuring artists like Sneaky Sound System and Yasiin Bey.
• Vivid LIVE at the Sydney Opera House hosted over 50 artists, including Air and Fever Ray.

Vivid Ideas:

• Headlined by Amy Poehler in a special In Conversation event.
• Events like “Sex Work: A Legal and Social History” and “Champions of Change” with the CommBank Matildas.

Vivid Food:

• Vivid Chef Series featured collaborations with Michelin-starred chefs at top restaurants.
• Vivid Fire Kitchen attracted crowds with its delectable offerings.
