Intense Heatwave to Persist in UP for Three Days, Monsoon Arrival Imminent

Kanpur, June 16 (Udaipur Kiran) : The relentless westerly winds bringing scorching air from Rajasthan are causing severe discomfort in Uttar Pradesh. With temperatures soaring above normal and low humidity levels exacerbating the heatwave, the Meteorological Department predicts that this harsh weather will persist for another three days before the monsoon sets in, bringing rainfall to eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Prolonged Heatwave Expected

Dr. S.N. Sunil Pandey, a meteorologist at Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, reported on Sunday that light to moderate rainfall, with some areas experiencing heavy showers, is anticipated in Vidarbha, Marathwada, Telangana, Sikkim, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rains are also likely in parts of southwestern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, southern and eastern Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Konkan and Goa, and central Maharashtra. Tamil Nadu, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and southeastern Rajasthan might see light rain.

Heatwave Conditions Across Multiple Regions

Dr. Pandey highlighted that severe heatwave conditions are expected in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand, including the Kanpur region. Heatwaves are also likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu division, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and northern Chhattisgarh. Night temperatures in certain areas of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh are expected to remain higher than usual.

In Kanpur, the maximum temperature recorded was 45.2°C, while the minimum was 29.0°C. The relative humidity was 34% in the morning and dropped to 19% in the afternoon. The northwesterly winds had an average speed of 7.1 km/h. According to the weather forecast, Kanpur will experience partly cloudy skies over the next five days, but there is no expectation of rainfall. Both day and night temperatures are anticipated to remain above normal, and the heatwave conditions are likely to continue.
