Goa’s Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, announced on June 16 that the recent tourist season saw a substantial rise in visitors compared to pre-COVID levels. He stated that the total number of tourists surpassed 10 million, countering beliefs of a decline in the state’s tourism.
In an interview with PTI, Khaunte emphasized a remarkable 150% increase in international tourists during this period. He pointed out that this growth occurred despite the stiff competition Goa faces from other states and global tourist destinations.
Khaunte also explained that Goa’s allure for international tourists extends beyond its beaches. During the monsoon season, when beach access is limited, hotels still achieved an impressive 80% occupancy rate. He noted that tourists are increasingly interested in varied experiences such as exploring waterfalls and engaging in rural tourism throughout the state.
