The busiest travel season of the year has arrived. Stockholm Arlanda Airport is anticipating a high volume of passengers during June, July, and August. To accommodate this surge, the airport has introduced 17 new scheduled routes for the summer.

“I would like to wish everyone a warm welcome to Arlanda this summer. Both we at Swedavia and the airport’s operators are well prepared and ready to receive all expectant holidaymakers,” says Arlanda’s Airport Director Karl Eklund.

” I would like to encourage everyone to prepare for their trip by checking when we recommend you to arrive at the airport and to head straight to a check-in kiosk to collect your baggage tag and also check in if you haven’t already done so at home. By arriving at the airport at the recommended time and being well prepared, you contribute to a smoother flow for everyone with shorter waiting times in both baggage drop-off and security checks,” Karl Eklund continues.

Swedavia advises passengers traveling within Europe to arrive at the airport between 2.5 to 2 hours before their flight. For international flights outside Europe, the recommended arrival time is 3.5 to 3 hours prior to departure. Additionally, Arlanda’s website features a tool that allows passengers to input their flight number to receive tailored arrival time recommendations.

“However, keep in mind that a recommendation is just a recommendation. As a traveller, you are always personally responsible for keeping yourself updated via your airline about your specific flight,” says Karl Eklund.

Upon reaching the airport, travelers should proceed directly to a check-in kiosk to obtain their baggage tag. Preparing the baggage tag in advance and attaching it to their suitcase can significantly reduce wait times at the baggage drop. The check-in kiosks, available in the terminals and SkyCity, also offer services for passengers to check in and print boarding passes if they haven’t done so at home.

“Once you’ve attached your bag tag and left your bag in the Bag drop, it’s time to go to security. Here it is extra important to look at and follow the instructions on site as they are different depending on which security check you pass. I would also like to recommend downloading Swedavia’s app where you can receive push notifications about your flight and take part in our new, commercial offerings here at Arlanda. Since last summer, we have opened the Marketplace in Terminal 5, Arlanda’s largest investment ever in an improved range of food, drink and shopping. The range is continuously developed during the year, but I can already promise that last year’s returning holidaymakers will be pleasantly surprised by all the news at Arlanda,” says Karl Eklund.

Karl Eklund, the Airport Director, offers tips for a smoother start to your summer travel:
Ensure you arrive at the airport well ahead of your departure. For travel within Europe, Swedavia advises being at the airport between 2.5 and 2 hours beforehand. For international trips outside Europe, aim to be there 3.5 to 3 hours early. Additionally, Arlanda Airport’s homepage features a tool, “When should I be at the airport?”, allowing passengers to input their destination or flight number to receive a tailored arrival recommendation.

If you haven’t checked in online, use the kiosk to check in and collect your baggage tags.

After tagging your bags, proceed to the Bag Drop area to leave your luggage for the airlines that provide this service. Remember to keep your baggage receipt.

Get ready for security. If you’re traveling with only hand luggage and have checked in online, head straight to the security checkpoint. Be aware that security procedures in Terminal 5 differ from those in other parts of the airport; pay close attention to the instructions provided.

Stay updated on your flight with Swedavia’s app, which lets you monitor flight details including terminal, security wait times, check-in desks, boarding times, and gate information. Subscribe to updates for your specific flight to receive real-time notifications.
