Shashi Shekhar Vempati, the former CEO of Prasar Bharati, has been appointed as a professional director on the board of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). Vempati, who is currently the co-founder of DeepTech for Bharat Foundation, brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career in various government and academic roles.
In his current positions, Vempati chairs the Science and Technology Communication Apex Advisory Committee, advising the National Council for Science Technology Communication under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Vempati has also served as the Chairperson of the External Experts Group at the University Grants Commission of India.
An alumnus of IIT Bombay, Vempati began his career with a significant tenure at Infosys Technologies. He later led a digital news media startup, Niti Digital, before transitioning to his roles in public broadcasting.
His board memberships include the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the Indian Council for World Affairs, and the Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT).
Vempati is also a noted author and columnist, having published works on politics, public policy, and advanced technology fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Broadcast-Broadband Convergence.
