Reading Time: 2 minutesIberia customers now have the option to select from 25 destinations within Mexico that are serviced by the country’s own airline. This year, Iberia is providing an unprecedented capacity to link Europe and Mexico, offering over 772,000 seats, a 17% increase from 2019.
Iberia and Volaris have forged a comprehensive codeshare agreement to enhance connectivity between Europe and Mexico. Through this collaboration, European travelers gain access to 25 more destinations across Mexico operated by Volaris. Additionally, passengers can fly from these 25 Mexican cities to connect with Iberia’s flights between Mexico City and Madrid.
This enhanced connectivity complements Iberia’s record capacity initiative this year, facilitating a seamless bridge between Europe and Mexico. Specifically, Iberia operates three daily flights, providing over 772,000 seats annually, which is a 17% boost compared to 2019.
Furthermore, the Spain-Mexico route is exclusively serviced by the A350, Iberia’s largest aircraft, featuring 348 seats across Business, Premium Economy, and Economy classes to cater to diverse passenger needs. Notably, this aircraft is highly efficient, consuming 35% less fuel than similar models.
Under this agreement, Iberia will place its code on Volaris-operated flights connecting those 25 domestic destinations with Mexico City, facilitating smoother booking and operational processes. This collaboration aims to streamline operations, reduce complexities, and enhance overall efficiency for both airlines.
“With this collaboration agreement we reaffirm our commitment to Mexico, one of our main markets. It allows us to offer better connectivity to all customers who travel to Mexico with Iberia, at the same time as we make it easier for all passengers from Mexico to travel to Europe in a more comfortable and efficient way,” said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Commercial, Clients and Network and Alliances Development Director.
“By signing this codeshare agreement with Iberia we offer passengers a greater range of options to explore Mexico. This alliance will expand connectivity via Mexico City, reaching 25 national destinations within our network,” explained Holger Blankenstein, Executive President of Volaris. “Our goal is to continue offering improved connectivity options, further enriching the travel experience for more people.”
The destinations covered in this codeshare agreement within Mexico encompass: Acapulco, Cancún, Chetumal, Chihuahua, Ciudad Juárez, Cozumel, Culiacán, Guadalajara, Hermosillo, Huatulco, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, La Paz, Los Mochis, Mazatlán, Mérida, Mexicali, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Escondido, San José del Cabo, Tapachula, Tijuana, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and Villahermosa.
The approval of this agreement by the Mexican and Spanish authorities is still pending. It is anticipated that the codeshare flights between Iberia and Volaris will become available starting in July.
